kiting is mainly for people who are to sh!t to windsurf or do just about any other boardsport. They find homage in kiting because they can learn to ride in a day, jump in a week, do a fully sick pullup or "ride" a wave in a month... They like it because they can believe they are good at the sport in no time, they can believe they are doing the motions that they think are hard. They write and give useless information on forums after they have been doing the sport for a month because they think they know something. Learning to do a backroll off a diving board would take longer and be harder to achieve than it is kiting.
Who cares if you think windsurfing is gay, at least it's a hell of a lot more legit than kiting will ever be. I would be glad if I was still a poley, at least the fact that it's somewhat hard to learn weeds out some of the complete w@nkers that would otherwise be clogging up the beach. Pitty for them now they just learn to kite instead...
Legit!!
Well kind of..
When I went surfing again after a few months of rest, I noticed that I was looking like a complete kook and could not do cr@p compared to kiting. Fighting currents, reading the breaks.. catching a wave and doing a few turns is a whole lot harder than doing the same in kiting.
So I definitely respect good surfers for their skill, but am I tempted to change sports?
Certainly not, because kiting is just more "efficient" in many ways, and even elite surfers will never come close to the mobility and variety that we have.
Regarding windsurfing, I know completely nonathletic people who poledanced back and forth in no time, which does not make them legit in my books.
And for those who made it all the way to backrolls, I don't see why they would not find a challenge kiting. Nobody prevents them from throwing megaloops or kiteloop handlepasses.
And there is nothing like that in windsurfing.
