Ok,

Hypothetical, I've got a spare 10-15 grand

live way out west
can't swim and hate the water
have to launch and retrive the thing
have to insure it
have to put petrol in
And guess what, by gingo it's totally boring

I guess I'd be a tossa on the water if I had all that going on in my head.

Apart from worring about being empaled by one of these tossa,s, at speed, the buggers park in front of me, to watch, not a clue. Never been out with so many jetskis, might of well set up on the freeway, smelt and sounded like it. Tax em out of existence

Does anyone that kites own one of these things?

If I had one I'd do a major exursion STkilda to Rye, etc, yet to see one further than 200meters out, absolute fairys.

Jetskis are fun! for, what, the first 5 minutes. I don't understand why people buy jetskis just to go cruising on a river... BORING!

i will give someone 50 bucks if you can make it out through a break after 5minutes on a stand up ski.

beats the hell out of paddling for a wave when there is no wind.

For memory Australia is a really big island? hence plenty off water for all no?

So why bitch about jet skiers, turn the tables for a second think how many people winge about our sport ( kite boarding ) and how many places are getting smaller and smaller or worse yet getting closed from people like you that moan about other peoples choices?

I do agree there are a lot ( millions in fact ) of jet skiers that do high speed runs inches from the beach, but not all, let the police deal with them. ( i have no doubt the police will catch them cause i cant make it 2m of the boat ramp and already i have a police asking for all the necessary)

I play by all the rules and i still have windsurfers, kite boarders, surfers , mums and rangers calling the police about ' pests on the water ' i don't get fined cause i am doing / carrying everything right all that happens is it becomes a no boating zone down the track for everyone including kiters so bitch all you want.

quote - 'the buggers park in front of me' notice to all pclarky owns all the water so next time you want to go out, drop him a email just to make sure you wont be getting in his way.

hay i have a good i idea lets make Australia one big nature reserve where you cant do anything cause you might annoy some like pclarky.

i am not angry just disappointed that you said something like that

Agree with kilo513 - why whinge about jet skiis? Just acknowledge that they aren't for you and let it go. I personally prefer kitesurfing - 10kgs of elegantly designed technology vs 250kgs plus dry weight for a jetski (plus trailer plus fuel etc). As a sustainable leisure activity with low environmental footprint, the kitesurfer is the winner for me. But it isn't for everyone - very few of my regular friends kite and few are even willing to attempt it, but many have been out on a jetski. Look at the positive aspects of jetski use in surf rescue and tow-in surfing. Allow people the freedom to make their own choices.

Can someone fill me in on the right of way rules for jetskis vs kitesurfers and windsurfers? I saw a couple of heated exchanges up at Pinaroo today.

Basic rules: Power gives way to sail.

As for the rest of the post, I'll stay out of it.

I knew that rule, I was just unsure whether a kite was considered a sail...

Also, do jetski owners need to get their recreational skippers ticket?

My friends got one and when there’s no wind its good for wakeboarding behind practising raileys, S bends and handle pass stuff.

Yeah bit boring after 5 minutes just motoring around.

What ever floats your boat.

Bought my first Jet Ski in 1991

First Kite in 1999

Still do both.

The ski is useful to get to favourite uncrowded kiting spots and for tow in surfing.

WIll be put to good use Sunday and Monday in the predicted 6 meter swell we are expecting here on the Goldie

I have recently bought myself a jetski 4 the sole purpose of recovering students and as a teaching tool. Before that i was never a fan of jetski's, i had the same missconception that all jetski's are loud and stink. My yami is far from that. Its a 4 stroke motor similar to a motorbike engine and is that quite that u acn't hear 15m off the beach. As for fumes....nothing.

I still can't see why they are so popular as i get bored after 10m on flatwater. But at my local kite spot the waves r perfect for it! Doing big cutbacks and just plain surfing with em is great fun and to top it off dolphins bowriding on the way back out. I guess what i'm saying is I hate country music, so i don't listen 2 it. The same should go for jetski haters

In my opinion they are good for two things.
Tow ins and rescuing people.
Often see them at the dog beach, on a crowded day, doing cutbacks <1m from the beach spraying dogs, weaving through swimmers at mach 2, and doing 360's.

Ah yes, Jetskis.

The new emerging upper class, suddenly find themselves making a whole heap of cash and want that new toy for the water. As they scream closer and closer to the shore with a "look at me!, look at ME!" attitude to their throttle and riding style. Beer gut and KFC funded body image oozing all over the colour of the water bike....ooooh, so sexy.

CUBS (Cashed up Bogans) are reaching plague proportions in the West and the department of environment is monitoring numbers. A culling program has been suggested in the form of a couple of sudden interest rate rises. Further study is continuing, as the possibility of this extreme measure has humanitarian groups concerned as many major breeding habitats (the suburbs) will be adversely effected by such a measure.

Although lobby groups have evidence that such a measure will reduce the number of ATV's which seem to be another favoured mode of transport when away from the mines for the locally exploding population of CUBS.

Unfortunately most of WA doesn't seem to give a toss about the environment, just making money so the trend will continue.

Of course I would like to think that my attitude towards most jetski owners will change when I eat my words and get rescued by one. Although I doubt that this will happen as most CUBS I have met who own one, can't actually swim too well and would NEVER venture far enough from the coast to warrant having the confidence to rescue me.

BUT I am generalising, and I do like being towed into waves behind them, and some people who own them are responsible type people. If I had more money than a bull could ****e then I'd probably own one too!.

Kind regards,
Bitter under paid, non-jetski owning school teacher, who usuallly has to paddle for his waves.

Just thought i would put in my 2 cents

Personally i think jet skis are a waste of money and boring but thats my opinion not all of them are retards who suck up our lines and have beer guts and are rich bogans, just like not all kitesurfers are showoffs and put kids in danger by jumping to close to shore.

just becareful when you stereotype as kilp said theres plenty of water for us all to get along

omg.. dont even get me started with flippen jetskis after today at lancelin..

this douche comes in and rides between all the kiters and gettin pretty close.. then stops Right in the middle of the flat section where myself and a couple of other guys wer throwing some pretty powered up **** and i myself was unhooking in more power than im used to so at first the kite was hittin the water alot.. everytime i look wher my kite is the jetski dude decides to be 10m away from it circlin round like a complet and utter F*ck head.

So after a while im gettin irritated n i tell him 2 f*ck off and stop riding around the kiters.. this dumb prick decides to rock up and start circling me like in one of them stupid movies with the bullie kids on their bikes.. so he comes up likea big man n asks me wat i said.. again i reply the same way and tell him he should be giving us atleast a 50m birth at all times and he sould be giving way to us at all times.. and hes like what makes u all special n ****.. to wich i replied.. a sailing craft ie ME has right of way.. b its stupidly dangerous and you can get pretty ****d up by a kite if your in the way of it.. C your getting in my way.. and after all that your ment to stay away from swimmers etc. then i said.. especially down wind of us.. i suggest you stay well clear of the down wind area.. and he goes ah yeah.. n stops right in front of mee to continue this discussion.. n he was workin me up pretty well.. then he blasts off like a prick after picking up some more of his stupid family. i mean there are a million places he could of done the pick ups and drop offs in lancelin.. back beach, further down the bay.. just infront of the point.. but no.. he has to do it right where the flattest kite water is so not only do i get pissd.. but his family has to swim through all that dirty bog and seaweed that lancelin is so famous for.. i kinda enjoyed that... luky he took my advice after that beacuse five mor minutes of that i wuda pinged the quick release n drownd the stupid arse.. then parked his jetski up in the dunes .

I see Jetski as the 4wd of the sea.

Most people who have them dont need and dont put them to practical use.

I worked worked with Jetski's at airlie beach and they were much more effective than tinnies and other sorts of small boats.

My only real story about them was at magnetic island in townsville. There was a few jetski tearing around near moored yachts and swimmers. 1 phone called solved it and the water police came around and breath tested them. Apparently got 4 people for DUI. Bye Bye licenses (car as well)

Jetski are like every other bit of society, there a responsible owners/riders and well as tossers

It's the same in all sport's,a few stuffing it up for the majority, every sport has it's scozzer mentality, usually ego driven, with that 'look at me doin my thing happening in the head'.Safe to say that the majority in the kiteing community are 'self conscious' of public safety other water users and the like....we have to be,with the equipment used does stand out for all to see, especially in Noosa at the present, with the outcome of our behavior determining the future of the sport on the Sunshine Coast.Same goes for Jet Ski's.I know plenty of JS rider's who enjoy what they do,tow-in's,etc some very experienced in the water, some not.If everyone practiced a little 'self consciousness' in the true text everyone would get along a lot better...
