Do whatever floats your boat and don't give a damn what others think, just enjoy the stoke of the style you are riding at the moment. It seems to me that we are quick to judge what other people are doing that is different to what you are currently doing..... Just because you don't handle pass/wake style doesn't mean the bloke who is, isn't getting just as much buzz as you are, doing whatever you do..... Horses for courses....
I have always enjoyed the unhooked riding and handle passes, simply for the challenge of trying to progress and learning a new trick that I thought I could never do, the stoke came from my own personal achievement. Given that I had very little style or could do it like the big boys (yeah, I sucked!). I just enjoyed the constant challenge.
I have since busted the cartilage in my ribs (again!) and had a quite a few months off work and kiting, so much so that the doc says give it all away altogether. Couldn't walk away from this great sport, so now kite with a pair of the board short style of harness with a piece of rope instead of a spreader bar....so no more wakestyle.....yeah, yeah break out the violins..... but I now only ride a strapless surfboard and a dedicated race board. My point? I never understood why the hell anyone who rides a race board could possibly be having any fun and damn it looks lame. Funny thing is, damn it is challenging....trying to master a simple gybe that was so ever so easy on the twin tip or surfboard is so different to the race board. I am enjoying the constant challenge of trying to master a new discipline. I am now, somehow, enjoying the race boards as much as the wakestyle..... go figure...So, I believe the stoke comes from the challenge of always trying to improve yourself in whatever discipline you choose.
My 2 cents..... flame away!

I met Toby back in 2009 in Brazil whilst he practiced his tricks. He always generated a crowd who were entertained often muttering lots of ooo's and arrrr's, never saw or heard that about those doing handle bar passes.
