Geez, don't you hate it when you make a noob mistake, even with a few years kiting under your belt.

Rigged up and ready to go at Leightons on Saturday. Good breeze, decent swell, keen to get out there.

Ask a Canadian guy for a launch, hook up the safety and the Chicken Loop, he picks up the kite, then puts it down again and tells me he reckons my lines should be attached to my kite.

Doh!

Would have been a touch under powered I reckon.

Name and shame.

Hate it when I'm pumping my kite and nothing is happening... then I realise I forgot to close the dump valve. All that wasted effort

Classic stories.

Embarressed to say I've launched without securing my harness properly ... was left watching kite, lines & harness sail off downwind (nobody injured .. just my ego)

Iv'e launched then gone to grab my board only to realise its still in the van.. Also did a down winder once and left my keys in my mates car up wind. Was thinking it was going to be a very very very long jog up the beach only to find that not only had i left my spare keys in the van but not even shut the drivers side door......... Sweet nothing missing or nothing Just now realizing i've admitted too much..

The one and only time I have ever tested to see if my chicken loop quick release works I didn't have my safety leash attached...

(if your name is waveslave, replace 'safety leash' with 'death leash', blah, blah whatever...)

Got someone to launch my kite, put my harness on and when I tried to hook in I suddenly realised I had rigged my spreaderbar upside down so the hook was staring up at me :(

Bahahahaha - noobs!

I have somehow launched with 2 lines hooked up - front right and back left!

Clearly it was the launcher's fault...

I have rigged lines to wrong attachment points....at one of the dodgiest kiting locations too - Crissy field in san francisco just before a course race. With many many spectators.

In non kiting stories; one of the most common accidents is people who press the odometer as they are going around a corner, catching and jamming their arm as the steering wheel rightens up. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't know two people who have both admitted to driving off the road because of this.

waxing the underneath of the surfboard reminds me of the 2 israelis we met heading up above the snowline in N.Z wearing plastic bags on the outside of their boots as they had heard this would stop their socks getting wet- lucky we met them just before the icy patch-.........

Maybe the guys who waxed the bottom of their surfboards just wanted a bit more speed.. (a gloss bottom finish is slow through the water compared to a matte finish - its to do with air bubbles and less resistance).

I tried to ride too close to the shore, convinced I could edge upwind away from the beach. Instead, I caught a fin, caught my toeside edge and did a powered up face plant into the sand.

Gone out kiting before with my prescription glasses on and suddenly realised it was a tad bright. Had to head back and fetch my prescription sunnies making sure not to fall so I didn't lose my normal glasses.

Not quite kiting related but I remember a mate of mine complaining to me that his new open back scuba fins were the most uncomfortable bastards out. When I took a look at them I realised he was using with with the plastic piece in them that holds it in shape. He'd only ever used closed back so he didn't know any different.

And then there was Matt's fall which is still one of the funniest wipeouts to date. (sorry, I had to post it again, Matt)

i was running backwards ready to self launch when i tripped arse over a massive washed up log on the beach.
i then looked around, thinking it wasd like someone had just put it there playing a prank on me.
saw some old couple craking up at my misfortune.

Left my mobile on the car roof one day in a busy car park, came back in to find quite a few missed calls and phone still there!! Surely plenty of honest peeps would have heard it ringing and had a laugh!
