I love how new guys always think that cause they do it, that's the way it has always been.
Downwinders is a new thing in the numbers that now charge through.

I took 3 minutes break while the crowd came through on Monday only to see 4 guys go in the flag zone for swimmers, and one chick take one more wave , only to come off 5 meters from guys swimming and loose her board. Thankfully she didn't have to drag over them.
The clubbie was getting a sore throat from yelling on his bull horn at the DWinders going through the flags.

4 guys in 3 minutes is a crowd? sounds like a quiet day for Perth
Or were you just flying early in the yellow arrows?

Winter time is aproaching and the beaches will be clear and all the tourist crowds will be gone.The waves will be bigger and the wind more of a challenge to ride.
The local downwinder season will begin !Just a smalll band of 20 kites from freo to hillarys enjoying space and freedom.
I think the lanos to wedge downwinders should be pushed next season to free up crowds around perth beaches.

It takes some special skill to ride a surfboard with a kite??
I rode one without a kite for over 30 years. I think there's more skill in that!!

heheh... yep alot of skill.

I was riding my light wind door sized kiteboard yesterday running down the line in head high waves finless.

Take your fins off Jono and see how skilled you are in the waves.

Hey guys I think twin tipping is cute. But like rollerblades it wears thin after awhile.
Whats the hardest thing about twintipping I asked the local guy wearing shorts over his wettie at a few years back.

Wow Jono I didnt think youd ever been that cool - I thought you had always just muddled along on a directional.

A huge % of surfboard riding kiters - esp in the mush & slush of metro Perth - are following the crowd at the expense of making the most of their kiting. If you are chasing the purist surfies experience of 'surfing' the wave & only use your kite to get you on, off, through & back to the next wave then for sure you need & have to be on a surfboard. I cant for the life of me understand why EVERY paddle-in surfie doesnt have a kite for all but the best surf conditions.
MARK MY WORDS here folks .....
If you cant 'surf' a 'surfboard' as a purist paddle-in surfie OR if you are using your surfboard to play in waves - esp in mushy crap - then you are going to have WAY more fun on a TT.
Give it a couple of years (I absolutely guarantee this will come about) you will see the majority of the downwind crew back to riding twinnys &/or (heaven forbid) the superest uncool ever mutant (hush ur mouth puppet). And they will be doing way more fancy fun stuff & having way more fun than they are now ploughing through the shorebreak & mush on their directionals.

What comes around goes around. Swings & roundabouts.

Had a great little session yesterday with 20 odd upwind tacks (gybes actualy) from Scarbs up to City Beach, and a leisurely down winder back to Scarbs. I reckon just doing a downwinder is boring.

Don't understand the need for a drive back up the road. Slack, I reckon. You herds of downwinders need to man-up.

Had a 13m kite and my Kapuna "surf" board. Very enjoyable afternoon in marginal 18-20 knot conditions.

... almost every session is like that for me,,,,, 3km or so upwind, muck around on a point break or reef break, down wind and repeat, repeat and repeat til beer calls me in!

No wonder the worlds best go to capetown to train .No whinging about downwinders or big airs.Just people enjoying the water and there kiting no matter what side kiting there attracted too..
There is excessive whinging and not enough kiting.
I still dont know why the whingers that dislike crowds continue to ride at Western Australia's most busiest beach.If you cant handle the pace and congestion then dont kite there.
There doesnt seem to be any whinging at dutchies or leightonss. Why not avoid the crowds and try new kiting locations where there is space if thats what your after.
The great thing about kiting in perth is that you have options for all styles of kiting.Im looking forward to winter kiting as the whinging population of Perth go into hibernation!.
