... just yesterday (again) I had a bloody huge stingray, about 70 - 80cm wide with one big arse tail jump out of water just downwind of me, scarred the sh!t out of me. Proberly the same one who I nearly hit the other day btw, I was in nearly same area again, roughly 2km off shore around a reef. I've been hit in the foot with a small stingray and it wasn't plesant so I could only imagine how bad a big one could be!!!

cheers,

Robbie

ps we got heaps of animals around this spot, mum and kid dugong which are too slow so you have to be ready to dodge them, turtles who are luckily just fast enough to get out of the way and damn stingrays.

Story 1: I hit a Hammerhead off Wanda, Cronulla last summer. It was only about 2 ft long and i'm sure the lil cutie was ok

Story 2: Surf was up a few weeks ago so packed a couple of boards, 1ltr of water, a bag of snakes, sunscreen into the rubber ducky and motored out and anchored next to the break. After 2hrs on my own i was visited by a very wide shark longer than my 7'6", it cruised directly below me about a meter away from my feet. I tried to stay out but that thought lasted about 3 seconds, so i caught the next wave in. Now i was stuck.... standing on the rocks with my boat 500 meters off shore....mmm.
So after about 30mins of staring out to sea i see another surfer paddling toward the break, i think i can't leave him out there on his own so i paddled back out, he's a mate and i tell him about the shark, we stay out and luckily no one gets chomped in half

Robbie it sounds like every session in Darwin is an adventure... I used to live in up there and sailed Tasers from the sailing club, i didnt kite then but i remember in one race down the harbour to Stokes Hill wharf we saw what looked like a huge bit of rope floating in the water ahead and when we got close realised it was a massive sea snake, head up, swimming along on the surface. It didnt even look at us but i reckon it was longer than the boat. Pretty awesome.
