Have a read of this!? The mag pretty much makes Andy out to be a tosser. The editor sounds like a bit of a toss to me..Have a look from page 80 onwards. Long article dedicated to smashing Andy and blowing Aaron. Check out the photo captions.."Andy Yates...shhh dont mention Aaron"

Wow thats rich coming from that abomination of a magazine (if you can even call it that)... That mag is the biggest piece of sh!t in existence, they have little to no idea about anything kite or boardsport related.

Long live Andy!

F@ck iksurfmag!

bwahahahahaha your life just got ruined.

ps this thread's already active under the name AH syndrome.

it is pretty funny how that absolute rookie fest of a mag is making such harsh comments when i saw a total of maybe 5 legit photos in it.

What gets me is they talk of Andy throwing his toys from the pram and yet dedicate 18 pages of their mag bitching about it. Who's really throwin the toys around. Christ, in their own words, get over yourselves people, noone gives a sh1t about your mag.

Hey you know I can see their point.

Maybe it was a little unprofessional of the mag to publish an article like that, and editor must be a bit of a toss, but.....

IMO Aaron's been around for years and has great style. Andy kicks ass and was the best rider on tour this year. Simple.

I hope he comes back next year, then we'll put Andy to the test

The best bet would be not to view it at all, as to not bump up their supposed "readers" that they tell sponsors thy get.

Seems like sour grapes on the mags part because Andy didn't want to play their game-sounds like they're the ones who threw "their toys out of the pram" and are "bitching" - pretty unprofessional and crappy way to treat the current world champ - dump on him and do a 'dirt piece' and yearn for Hadlow "who always makes time for the kite media and is always happy to pose for a photoshoot" - gawd - sycophantic leach media.

Andy knows what's up. Why would he pose for that piece of crap and give them the honour (if you will). Best thing he ever did was deny them.
I wish my facebook page "IKsurfmag is a piece of sh!t" didn't get taken down (because they complained) because it would have even more members now, that's for sure.

I guess this is what happens when you get people running a mag that can hardly even kite. All in it for the money. Same dude tried to start a snow mag but got denied... one word rookie.
I thought this mag sucked originally just for the sh!ty pictures, now I'm glad this happened because more people think this mag sucks for other reasons to haha.

journalists are kiters?

journalists don't do sports at an elite level......

they just report what they see and ask.

i just read that mag for the first time.

pretty normal journalism.

True words.
Just because your a journalist doesn't mean you know how to make a good Boardsports mag. Journalists shouldn't be running boardsports magazines, they should be writing tabloids, newspapers etc, other random **** we never buy.

There you go people, the leader has come through with the truth.

p.s. Hows how this self proclaimed "journalist" posts a private conversation between himself and Andy on the internet... Real professional, sounds like something I would do.

I'm all for Andy Yates, and hope he goes on and keeps winning!!!!..............

But Andy has a made a BIG mistake, with the way he has dealt with this magazine. I don't like the way IKSurfmag have put this article out, but all they've done is amplify what every non-Australian kiter is thinking??????

That Andy Yates' PKRA Tour win was the softest so far. Irrelevant of whether Hadlow was there, Langeree had to drop out through injury. Kevin Langeree was the man to beat this year, and the only thing that beat him was his own ankle!!!

I'm a journalist, and when a story presents itself I will write about it. Andy Yates is a “professional” kitesurfer, his job is to ride kites, win comps and speak to journalists. If we had merely requested and interview and he had said no, then I wouldn't have a problem with that. It is every ones right not to talk to the kite media, although no doubt his sponsors would have wondered why he was behaving that way.

The fact was that our readers had nominated him to be shortlisted for the readers awards. Every other rider who was nominated graciously appreciated the nomination, and was genuinely happy about it. It's a big accolade and something that only 5 men and 5 women from the kite world each year get the chance to be involved in. Andy Yates behaved in a totally unacceptable manner, I gave him ample opportunity to rethink his actions. But he insisted he didn't want to be compared to Aaron Hadlow. Something at that stage we hadn't actually done.

So we felt there was a story there, why would the current world champ be so unsettled by a rider who hasn't won the title since 2008. Andy also asked not to be compared to Aaron insinuating he was better than him. So for once instead of running a 10 page article interview with Andy about how well he had done and how great he was we decided to look into the other angle and see why a figure like Aaron still has the power to upset some of the best riders in the world.

Yes we poke a bit of fun in the article, but we also come back to Andy's amazing achievement, highlighting exactly how hard it is to win the world tour with so many things that can go against you. We also balance it by having a pop at Aaron too this year.

If you're a professional kitesurfer your life is pretty simple, keep the sponsors, media and fans happy. Andy let his sponsors down, the media and his fans. We called him on it nothing more nothing less.

You can say we are unprofessional, but we started out as professionally as we always do, looking to promote a rider who had been given a huge lump of respect from the readers. We also feel we balance the article as much as possible and kept it to a sensible level.

It was always going to cause a bit of controversy and split people into two camps, but we can't please everyone all the time. We wouldn't have felt comfortable writing an article about Andy's achievements, which was on the editorial plan, after the way he acted.

This is an email I received when I posted my objection to the article on the iksurf forum.

hope the clown realised the only reason the had so many reader's in the first place wasn't because of their amazing articles and photos but just because it was free and people like free stuff.

well andy is still getting good publicity out of it - how many pages was the article? any publicity is good publicity. and four or five pages mentioning only himself and hadlow has got to be a good thing.

I wouldn't say that article is typical journalism for a boardsport mag.

After looking at the caption for Andy as best male rider, which reads -

"Andy Yates This years PKRA champ, Andy has been riding really well this year. People are always going to argue that he isn't as good as Aaron, but he can only beat whoever is in front of him. He deserved the win this year and no doubt will be back next year to defend his title against all comers"

If I was Andy, I wouldn't be putting my name down on that.

Hmm this is the same mag that doesnt pay for contributors content. An online mag with minimal overheads. Good business plan, but free words and leftover free photos and doesnt make for good reading.

I can see both sides of the coin here though..

If your an Aussie, then props to Andy and his top efforts. If your not then its just natural to compare him to Aaron (especially if your a geezer), we'd do the same yeh? It happens in every sport.

Andy could have handled it better no doubt. No point making enemies. Out of all the things the mag could have said about him on the cover blurb they werent appropriate. Let him have his props without the sly diss on the side. It'd piss me off as well if id busted my balls for a year to win and then everyone (bar the Ozzies) were saying it was only because the real champs werent there. Looking forward to next year now..This would just be fuel for Andy's fire

The reason why Andy acted the way he did is because he is smart and he made the decision to not be part of this bs story that just aimed at blowing Hadlow sugar up his ar**.
What does Andy has to do with Hadlow and what did Hadlow has to do with Andy's win? NOTHING!

The publicity he has got out of the little story (that not many people would have read anyways) is now much greater and he makes his stands!

BTW he is better riding and than Aaron.

He will proves all haters and the bs talk that tries to say his win of 2010 PKRA was "soft".

BIG UPS to Andy once again for his professionalism.
