The wine has some pretty good reviews so I suspect it was faulty. Could be a number of reasons, cork taint is only one.

As a consumer you have a right to a refund from where you bought it. If it has been too long to recall that, then contact the winery, especially for that level of premium wine. I can almost gurantee they will replace it. They may ask you to describe the aspects that made it unattractive, and may ask for you to send the remainder back to them, usually they will pay for this.

I would agree that the best value wine in Australia is between $15-$30. If you know where to look you can find some excellent wines for well under $10. Generally these would not benefit from cellaring.

I opened a bottle of 2001 Yalumba Octavious on the weekend. A similar pricepoint to this wine.

This to me was a fantastic wine. Was it worth the price? Well for me yes because it was a gift and definately a treat. However in a blind tasting most people would pick a good $10 wine over an expensive aged one. Not because they won't like the aged one, but usually because they will like the fruit driven younger wine better.

Unfortunately there is a lot of unadulterated crap out there too - at all pricepoints.

Next time your sitting in front of a fire with a glass of red, suck on a chocolate cube while swig'n your red. Very tasty!

Lost the bet there. Stopped using instant shower not long after leaving school in the 70's, never watched a V8 race and lived in Bathurst for ten years. If I gave my opinion on motor racing I would have a plethora of red thumbs.

I have walked many paths in the last 50 years and have never understood the mechanism that makes people take a stance on the product of their choice. After all one rarely has the opportunity for input into the products make up, so it is not as though the product is a reflection of oneself.

If you like it and the price is fair is there any need for further justification?

The local RSL club is selling Chatau Tanunda 2006 Shiraz for $16.50. It's a very pleasant wine to drink.
