I just spent the weekend with a mate who brought one of these - its not quiet what you are after as its a phone as well -but its unreal. I am going to get one myself. And cheap as chips as well. Super quick processor and a simple and easy to use interface. Why pay te premium for an apple / samsung when thus is out there and its for your kid? Given its size its probably more of an iPad for a child than a phone for an adult.

thats a lot of money for a chinese nockoff. you can get a samsung galaxy ace for that and still have money left over.

Yes you might be able to but check the specs and you will see that this machine is more like a G4! To be fair they are not even really comparable. In terms of what was initially requested - a tablet - this is like a mini tablet with a free phone! The S2 is a phone. Anyway just my 2 cents worth. Lets us know what you go for.

8 years old. A tablet. Are you serious? Buy him a calculator, a plastic trigonometry set with the blunt 'safety' compass, some textas and be done with it. People these days............


Oh, and as an aside, If he is quiet and well behaved whilst on commercial planes then the above and perhaps a scientific calculator. If he is noisy and obnoxious, then something that will put him into a mild coma until the plane lands.

Samsung us the bomb smart tv runs wify all linked in. Game over for apple They have tried to endorse a neiche market of dumb people who are willing to pay for stuff that is free on a samsung.

I'd go the 10.1 Galaxy Tab, seems like pretty good value as it was their flagship model... Personally I think iOS is the superior platform, but I can't really argue with that tablet for under $300.

As for the sanctimonious replies about wether an 8yr old should have a tablet... Our family got our first computer when I was 9, I used it almost exclusively, now I earn a living from computers. Technology is no longer optional, it's part of life... Starting to use technology at a young age will allow them to be more adept at absorbing it in the future, in my opinion. As for what limits a parent puts on the use of a tablet, well that's up to the parent.
