You're wrong. Yes, marginal rates are increasing but so is the tax-free threshold and that applies to everyone. So after 1st July next year, people earning $18,200 will pay zero - $1,800 less than this year. Someone earning $37,000 will end up paying about $1,000 less in tax than they do this year. The difference becomes negligible once you get to $80,000 per year (about $3) and the marginal rates are the same at that level. So they end up paying the same as they do this year.

This ignores the flood levy.

The alternative is environmental meltdown. Imagine the economy under that.

Cold has by far the greatest negative impact on any economy. The UK when it was snowed under, ground to a halt costing it >0.4% growth last year.

More CO2 = greater farm yields.
Warmer temperatures = More rain and more farm yields.

Carbon tax isn't going to do ANYTHING except rob you some more, and shift even MORE industry abroad.

Those who make anything or have kids, who drive them to Judo on Monday, Swimming on Wednesdays and Netball on Fridays are going to suffer... cos it's all going to get more expensive.

Google Ted Trainer, I studied under him in 1992 at UNSW, he's responsible for teaching this crap at university level. I worked for national parks and wildlife and now design buildings for a living, I am wrapped up in the Scam and have been for a very long time, I know its a scam, I work in the Industry.
Trainer's alternative methods are now being implemented into policy that were once illegal because it took money from utility companies, these utility companies are now being privatised and diversified into such things as water tank manufacture.

The whole scam is to fool the great unwashed with psycho-babble ambiguity in an effort for a one wolrd government with privatised utilities.

I have no problem with sustainable practice, in fact thats what my life and work is about, its the farce of " the FKN sky is falling in" and all the foxy loxy's that come with it. They have to scare us into being complicent, and that was Trainers strategy, it is out of control now, and people love to hop onto the popularist bandwagon.

Twiggy's mistake was being a good businessman but getting his politics wrong. Labour used a divide and conquer strategy i.e. use a policy which divides your oppenents, a policy ok with BHP and Rio but left Twiggy in the cold. The richest man in Australia crying poor is just ludicrous.

The carbon tax protesters have probably been doing a bit of thinking and realise it's a dead issue. Given we've happily been paying $50 plus per tonne for years to put unwanted solids in landfill, what do you think is a reasonable price to put unwanted gases in the atmosphere? I predict it will be a non-issue at the next election.

Looks like the NSW state Liberals are determined to keep it as an issue with the directive the cost of the carbon tax be account for as a seperate item on all power bills.

Our last power bill was a bit under $400 for the quarter, using about 16 KwH a day. It will be interesting to see how that compares to this time next year.

Scary bit here is that our strong dollar is exacerbated by a very Weak US. This is globally, the USD has fallen against everyone.

Asia mostly sells in USD. This year they have increased pricing from their factories by around 13% to make the same amount in their local currency. This includes China, the RMB may be artificially low but it still fluctuates.

Right now with a strong AUD those increases are masked, when the AUD falls even Asian made goods will be more expensive unless the USD can get some go again.

So, probably not wise as an importer right now to base any business model on current exchange rates.
