Auctions:

www.pickles.com.au/

www.manheimfowles.com.au/

Just avoid ex-WA government. 50-60k km, and the ex-government cars here are FLOGGED... I think there must be some kinda competition to see who can treat 'em the roughest...

The auto wholesalers are another option, but you could save yourself a packet (perhaps 3k cheaper than auto wholesaler, 6-10k cheaper than car yard) by buying at auction yourself.

BTW, you should be able to get a 2004-2005 VZ Commodore Executive wagon for 15k from the auctions...

Are auctions easy to negotiate.
One site said 50 cars in an hour. Thats like one every minute more or less

Greeny, although he is a great chap , he is a kiter.
Dont think he needs a commodore wagon to cart around a dacron bag and a water ski (sorry rellie only takin the mick)

How old are you willing to go?

From memory, Delica 4wd vans go for around $15 for the mid to late 90's models.

But how much space do you really need?

Negotiate You bid... You win... You are going against the dealers, and even if they run you up a little, you are STILL saving thousands...

I guess i would go 8 years or so.
Have seen Reg's Delica. The fact it is still driving after Reg's thrashing must mean its a good car.
think i will try the auctions.
unless anyone here has a Hilux Dual cab 4wd, mint.......

I just checked yesturdays paper and there is a 2003 VY executive wagon for 14k at Morley Holden. They also have a 2004 VZ for 18k. All their cars have 10% off atm. Go the wagon. They are super handy and Im sure Reli wants to be able to take all his boyfriends on a downwinder in it

yeah yeah yeah... wagon, wagon, wagon... I had a VT, now have a VZ

Usually not fixed prices, it's an auction... May be reserves... Those that get passed in may end up at the wholesaler or fixed price... Dealers prices are very high compared to auction prices... After all, that's where a lot of the dealer stock comes from... then they need their cut...

Have a look at the private seller wagons on carsales.com.au... there is a 2002 VX II wagon at $11.5k, with 98k km... and it already has roof racks (for family that won't fit inside coz of all of your kit)

If you don't need the wagon/van for kit take a look at a Pajero 4WD. If looking at a diesel make sure you get a 2800 - don't touch the 2650.

Relli you could get a pretty sweet Subaru Impreza RX wagon or Liberty wagon for $15K.
I could fit 2 boards, 6 sails etc in the latter when I had one. Thus I think it would be big enough for you.
Also there is much more fruit in a Liberty than the commondore or foulcan, handles better, and a lot more reliable.

I recently bought my first ever 4WD (previously a 4WD hater). Got a really, really nice 1998 Pajero with LPG conversion, full electrics, 6 CD stacker etc. etc. for $11,500. Found it on www.carsales.com.au

In the few months I've owned it been up to Wedge twice and the beaches north of Lano 5 or 6 times now and the family absolutely love it!

F***ing thirsty bugger tho

What's with the price increase on LPG gone from 40 cpl to now about 75 cpl in like 3 months

Airhead, its called profit taking, I bleive Westfarmers control the LPG price, and I imagine they just gleefully rub their hands together each time the price of oil increases, as it seems they match Gas price increases to Oil. Sorry off topic but anyone know any more regarding these gas increases?

Gas hasn't been under 50c PL for nearly 3 years. You want thirsty, Man I use to watch the gauge on my 80 series Landcruiser go down as I was driving on petrol. The gas wasn't much better, 350k's on a long trip to a 110L tank. Awesome cars though, if I had spare 20k I'd get another and put V8 diesel in it

Try and find a subaru forester. top cars. Or any toyota. Everything else ive been around has always had problems.
A corolla/camry are very good cars, can fit kite gear in.

Thanks for all your helps.

Mr Stribo i will b in touch!! I live near Freo so might pop down in the next couple of days.

I was looking at a Pajero but was worried about the fuel guzzling side of things. Couple of friends have them and swear by them. How much litres are you getting on 100km.

Forrester sounds good too. but would prefer a 4wd.....wanna go to wedge more!!

Forester is a 4wd (as are all subarus), and will easily make it to wedge. Went up with one two weeks ago. No problems.

Not sure on ULP but guzzling around 18-20 ltr/100km of LPG . Engine does need a tune up and hopefully will drop to 16-17 ltr/100km afterwards

pagero with 5 people = a lot of gear in trailer and on roof used 18L/100 over the whole trip and that included some really soft sand and hard tyre driving. petrol use was double on the way up as the way back and the only difference was 1 person but no stuff on the roof. never again will i put stuff on the roof for that reason.

Subaru, if you want to save on fuel and have a reliable 4wd. We have an L series wagon, best 3k we ever spent!
