withdraw suddenly oil as world as main power source (replaced by clean electricity) and calculate how much is now barrel worth on free market ?
a dollar or two?
With oversupply production going in millions of tons a day who will buy their stuff?
I guess US next run will be on Eskimos to grab their white stuff as fresh water become more expensive then oil in such scenario.
Not sure what religion and believes they may have (Eskimos) but I will be surprised to learn they will be willing to trade their lives for hundred virgins covered in polar bear fur.

Eskimo Heaven

Yee.. you're right Doctor , maybe that is nice and clean heaven but I just can't stand the freezing cold,

If life on the planet Earth was created by passing, low flying UFO that emptied their waste bucket to our clear crystal blue oceans ...
effluent then fermented ...
and we are that fermentation byproduct....
will YOU be still praying to our creators ?

Do they really care (UFO's) what their fermented Sh.t worms (we) do with our planet?
How on Earth one Sh.tworm that believe in one ET's is better then another that don't ?

Be prepared !
All Sh.t-worms !!
Your Daddy and Mummy is coming for inspection to check if all you good Sh.tiworms live within prescribed drawn on the sand borders !!!

Now Daddy will punish these Bad Sh.t-worms that do not obey...

For those Good Sh.t-worm Daddy has nice surprise ...Daddy give you another other twenety fresh Sh.t-worms from the jar and you could copulate with them all as much as you want
and
to
the Bad Sh.t-worm I take you back to the jar and splash my smoking butt on your head then pee and poo to the jar till you drawn.

Daddy takes you to the jar ..you're Bad Sh,t-worm

Sh.t-worm Hell? or Heaven ? - I don't know- you could copulate here for sure

^ I agree with you about standing separate from the USA but that is not going to happen. Already Rudd has given full support for sanctions. By regretting it I did not mean that you were going to suffer physically, though who knows that may happen.

Surely though, if fuel does reach $2.69/ltr it will have a huge impact on you as will all the other repercussions. Would it not be a good thing then for you to at least understand why? If you don't then you may as well be a mushroom

Japie what were you doing tapping out these ramblings when there was a perfectly good nor easter this arvo .I ad a great sesh at nobbies all on my own until my c loop line busted

Was in casualty at the Mater until 12.30 last night getting my finger stitched up - out of action for a while which should ensure good wind for the next week or so

I don't mind if you agree or not.

Unfortunately, history suggests that a war is a way to get an economy up and running, albeit not usually if you are the loser...

Dragging out an example of a communist economy is not a great argument. I thought we were talking about western/capitalistic economies, no? I don't think any 'ruling sphere' would try and convince the public using this argument though. it's not exactly a positive.

Ah, conspiracies... what you are left with when you remove common sense and logic.

(If I was into conspiracy theories, I would suggest that the "iluminati" would create conspiracy theories to keep the public occupied... )

History emphatically says, wars usually bankrupt countries...
and always bankrupt or completely efface the loser.

Really? "History emphatically says, wars usually bankrupt countries.."

Okay, do you have an example?

There's an initial up tick in economic activities due to the issuing of debt and the need for military assets.
I'm not sure if imposing rations can be termed getting a economy up and running.

I'm sure you have lots of friends with inside knowledge that think differently.

What are you on about?

And like Macroscien says, spending the money on anything else would be a more rational choice if you wanted economic stimulation.

No kidding. It seems like we all agree on that. Unfortunately, the public seem to get all concerned when money is spent for what they feel is 'without a reason'. Sadly, if they are convinced a war is necessary, they don't seem to object as much.

That is possibly the biggest misery of our "western democratic societies"
When it comes to imposing new taxes on polluters ( ie K.Rudd and Mining Tax, or Carbon Tax) you need referendum and complete society consensus.
When goes to war on another continent nobody ask for your opinion.
I can't imagine our generals calling for national referendum if they decided to drop a nuke on Iran or south Korea to "teach bastards a lesson " or just as precautionary steps.
Btw $3/ltr fuel is not the bad idea at all. Firstly I ride on sailboard not jet ski or motor yacht so does't bother me much. Secondly always wanted electric car and that could be best stimulus for governments to get serious about manufacturing EV.

You can buy one of those for mere $6500 today !
Drive 180 km on one charge, max 80 km/h
One drawback if you are windsurfer rider - switch to kite or get proper roof rack
since your bottom vehicle is going to be shorter then top one.
Dimension: 2575*1450*1560 mm
That is good enough for me

Kitesurfers prefer this one

SUP call for long version like that one

Palestinian Muslim family with 2 wifes and 8 kids my like bus version

Israelis could have armor plated this one

Do we need still go to another war for oil ?

I have an idea.
Send two biggest empty nuclear aircraft carriers: one to North Korea another to Iran
to pickup order that you placed in advance.
Ask them them to build and fill up this ship everytime with this small mass produced EV above at $5000 a piece.
Whole load cost possibly less then one Raptor.
Then:
a) sell this EV at double the price to our citizens,
b) send to poor Africa region as a UNICEF gift if our folks don't like it
c) drop and sink to the ocean floor and go back for next load -if Africans don't like it either - still cheaper then new war

What is thus thread all about ?

I'd like to make some smart arse comment correcting somebodies view of history with my own, but I can't actually work out what the point is here.

Is somebody paying $2.69 / ltr for unleaded ? If you are I can help you out. I can sell you some for $2.60 - a whole 9c / litre off and you don't have to buy any groceries. Just pop into your nearest servo, fill up, pay the cashier a deposit and send me the difference between my $2.60 sale price and what you paid as a deposit

When Iraq invaded Kuwait the price of oil went down
When US bombed Iraq the price of oil went down

If Israel assults Iran surely it will be with air strikes not a ground invasion.

Last week the USS Nimitz sailed through the Persian Gulf. The Nimitz air capacity alone is greater than the entire Iranian Armed Forces. The Nimitz was followed by the Hood. The Hood was followed by a couple of French warships. The French were followed by the British.

Orange Juice might hit $9 if the rains flood the groves of Victoria, and cyclone takes out the WA mid-west. In which case I'll drink apple juice.

Otherwise doomsayers - carry on preaching while everyone else gets on with life.

If you want to worry about something them goats are still up there.

The point is that bombing doesn't solve any problem.
They want a nuke because they afraid and hate you there already.
You do bomb them and they hate you even more.
You do trade with them and they will love you as Chinese do.
China has even more nukes then NK and Iran even can dream about and what?
Do China plans' to nuke their customers?
Do Iran want to send oil to Europe then bomb them ?
All Middle East for thousand of years was famous and rich due to their merchant skills and proficiency not warriors.
Germans lost the war and won the peace time with flourishing, booming economy.

look carefully .. China.. Persia. Merchant .. AD 600..Gold

When goods, services, ideas and people freely cross borders then soldiers do not.

The idea that the Americans could actually defeat Iran is surprising. 11 years after the invasion of Afghanistan the Americans and their loyal allies are still there and victory is as far off as ever. The Iraq adventure finished off with the Americans leaving in the middle of the night after their immunity from legal prosecution for criminal acts in Iraq was removed.

If Iran is attacked what is to stop the Iranians from retaliating by sending hundreds of thousands of soldiers who mix in with the locals into Iraq and Afghanistan and causing mischief? The Iranians could close down shipping in the Persian Gulf by just threatening the release of mines, let alone doing it.

Its clear insanity from American politicians and commentators to even consider attacking Iran. A country that is going broke partially through financing extremely expensive middle eastern wars is now considering attacking the most powerful country in the area. It is insanity of American Exceptionalism. Somehow America is the source of all things good and somehow they can do no wrong.

The idea that war creates wealth and growth is a falicy. War gives government the power to extract wealth from their subjects and then channel that wealth to create objects to kill and destroy. This does not create wealth, it destroys wealth.

The ways to create wealth includes productive labour, commerce, enterprise and speculation. Government extraction and consumption transfers and destroys wealth. War is the destroyer of life and wealth.

The Iranians are bypassing the sanctions, which are economic war, through direct deals with Pakistan, India and China to exchange oil for gold. This has the American government more worried than any Iranian nuclear program.

The whole idea that Iran would use nuclear weapons is laughable. They have not developed nuclear weapons. Its likely they won't develop nuclear weapons despite the fact neigbouring countries have nuclear weapons.

Anyway why should one country be allowed to have nuclear weapons and another is not? Especially when one of those countries used nuclear weapons against civilians from a country whose government's attempts at peace were being ignored. The whole idea of the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty was that the established nuclear powers would reduce and eliminate their nuclear weapons in return for other countries not acquiring nuclear weapons. Somehow one side of the deal is enforced while the other is ignored.

Pushing the price of petrol up,just another way they take from the sheep.

You think they enjoy us driving around in highly sophisticated machines?

Iran,U.S,Russia etc arms of the same body.

Where did Iran get those sunburn missilies from that can reach mach 2 and take down possibly aircraft carrier?

Wasn't it from the Russians who in turn were given the technology from the U.S.

They obviously finance both sides.

And remember it was the U.S that nuked two Japanese cities.

Yes,the 3rd world war is just about to be 'played'. Iran,China and Russia against and the other controlled opposition of Israel,U.S and the western alliance.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.
