I'm not saying any of that at all.

I'm just pointing out that not everyone agrees that Triple J is acting in our best interest, they have copped a fair share of criticism recently - and so they should, we pay for it.

Personally, I believe that Triple J have become brand focused rather than purpose focused. They have, unfortunately, fallen into the trap of believing in their own self importance. They have become too big, too Sydney centric for my liking, too popular, too commercial and just plain annoying. it's not a taste thing, more an observation.

As they are chasing popularity so badly, why don't they just do it for real, and start competing with the rest of the commercial radio stations? If they are that good at it why can't they pay their own way?

Because if JJJ was driven by commercial decisions (read profits) it would be crap. Amazing people such as Dr Karl who give their time for free would leave.

Then many of us would be screaming for a government funded radio station, and we wouldn't care how imperfect it would be, to take JJJ's place.

Maybe the new station could be called JayZ FM.

You just described the 'kids of today'. Sounds like JJJ have succeeded in identifying with their 'youth' target audience.

Adam and Will were funny farkers. Paul Mc Dermott and Mikey Robbins were also funny as. Nothing much has changed in the world. When they started I clearly remember both breakfast shows being criticised.

Merrick and Rosso in the afternoons were my favourites (probably because I was awake by then).

So much talent has started on JJJ.

I thought this thread and basis of your argument (oliver et al) was about the music, not the presenters. Hell even I took a dislike to Tom & Alex but I'm not listening to the radio for the presenters. Anyone care to remember just how grating Helen Razer was????

What was funny about those jokes and that zany video you posted earlier?

Do you have any decent community radio in WA?

I just googled those jokes and copy and pasted them to keep the thread alive. I knew nothing would put a smile on your dial anyway.

Oliver: "Grump grump grump. Write down a joke that you heard on the radio that was funny, something that's going to make me laugh."

As if I'd fall for that old chesnut.

Hey, I've found a couple of tracks that I'd define as the quintessential Triple J sound. Tell me Elroy which do you prefer most and why?

Boy & Bear - Rabbit Song
San Cisco - Awkward
Architecture In Helsinki - Heart It Races
Wolf & Cub - This mess

Perth has Rtr 92.1 rtrfm.com.au/
We have more choice than regional WA though.

Fortunately JJJ broadcasts in many regional areas around the State. It makes a good option from Mining fm.

Maaaaaaate. Quintessential JJJ? When? In 2009? Where did you find those songs. They are 3 to seven years old.

San Cisco is good though. Young band from Fremantle. Their song Fred Astaire would be one of the many good songs played recently.

Their parents obviously didn't hit them hard enough when growing up.

To think that tax payer dollars are going to these twits, to fund more bad records. They will inevitably break up in a few years time.

It's all to much for me - I need to push out another Boy and Bear.

You sound like you're in the know. How much of our Tax payer dollars have gone to support San Cisco?

Just when I thought I'd run out of Triple J bashing articles, I found this gem today:

Cartoon rappers and dudes with beards are out! Dancing caterpillars and mulligrubs videos are in!

That was a funny article.

OK ok you got me. It appears I have taken the bait and fallen for your fake dislike of JJJ. You're probably outside right now wearing your tightjeans, letting your Papa Smurf beard soak up some rays while toking on a cigar.

But to be fair, it's not a big stretch to imagine you're a 'Grumpy Gramps' Oliver. Sorry I thought that.

You know something, you're ALRIGHT...

Hahahhaa. I thought you might have figured that out after I made the link b/w Triple J and youth suicide.

And yeah that article was funny. I had to read it twice before I figured out it was a joke.

I just purchased JJJs hottest 100......my disbelief is at CD, 1 song 5 Disclosure "when a fire starts to burn" now I have listend to the JJJs most of the year I can't really say I heard this song or at the least took any notice to the repetitive bong bong bang bang American style hip hop? Wtf? Did anyone actually vote for this or even hear this song? A real waste of CD 1 I'm thinking! Or perhaps I'm just getting old!

Good news Lads. JJJ is launching a new radio station on digital radio at 12 noon today.

It's called Double J. It will be playing alot of music and interviews from the JJJ archives.

You guys can listen to music from JJJ's heydays, (ha ha ha, or more likely this will be another station to comment on! "The J's weren't like this when I was younger").

Triple j Manager Chris Scaddan says: "We have wanted to build a station like this for a number of years and now, with your help, we are really proud to deliver Double J. While it won't be a throwback to the music of the original Double J, it will be a station that takes the best elements of triple j's past - a name, a presenter and the incredible archives, thrown headlong into the future with the best new sounds around. It means even more airplay for Australian music and more of the values and ethos that make triple j so celebrated around the world

www.abc.net.au/doublej/

Here's to a fresh new era of complaints (I'm looking at you Oliver)!
