It's kind of interesting, in a bad way, this deal between Vietnam and Russia recently. It's a sign that some nations, who I would have considered borderline democratic are now choosing to join the other team.

Russia is just trying to make sure it has people to trade with as other countries cut it off. Vietnam are always happy to have people agree to buy their stuff and help them develop the country. It doesn't mean that the rest of the world is bad, it's just a marriage of convenience.

The point I was trying to make is that the world was opening up until maybe a decade ago, many countries were seeking open trade and there was a movement towards democracy, probably due to the success of The US Europe and elsewhere.
Those times are now behind us as countries are now weighing up their options and picking teams. Team western democracy isn't looking too good at the moment and I think the other team are gaining support for an inevitable showdown.

Yes, I've been to Vietnam, communist country, but was quite open. Yes saw plenty of Russians there and China has a big influence. I think Vietnam is interesting too as it was having a bit of an each way bet. But then Putin came to visit and now they are all in, which demonstrates the point that Western democratic countries are losing credibility.
Their neighbors in Thailand are also interesting. Good article on ABC how their 'Deep State' keeps things churning. On the outside they aspire to Western Democratic Ideals, such as legalizing same sex marriage etc. I think, when it comes to showtime, they won't bat for our team.

If someone came along and offered you great trading opportunites and you could benefit, why not? The Americans have provided a lot of aid to Vietnam I think, but it sounds like relations were a bit frosty until recently. Well, that's my guess anyway.
I like Vietnam and it seems they are trying to build themselves up. I remember someone telling me that there were quite a few renewable energy wind plants, yet there were not enough users for the power yet. I am sure that we will see more and more companies second-sourcing from there or developing their factories there.
But as far as Russia is concerned its a market for them and a good one if the rest of the world is not happy with your invasion of Ukraine.

I have never been to Thailand, but I rode into Cambodia from Vietnam and people were talking about Cambodia's factories of people running scams or trying to hack into things. More like a slave camp by the sounds of it. Its a bit of a contrast when you go from Vietnam to Cambodia and see the apparent difference in living standards.

Wasn't it Whitlam who scrapped TV licenses in Australia ? If you regard Gough Whitlam as having conservative drivel policies then your political views would have to be so far left you be up your own arse.
It could be argued the very nature of the way in which the BBC is the broadcaster and also the TV licensing authority, with powers of judge, jury and executioner but then sells those legal responsibilities to commercial contractors is very Trump-esque, and so scrapping the fee and the powers private contractors have to collect the 'tax' would be anti-Trump-esque.

This i think is his explanation why we do not see to see any curvature lol.

The one thing I get from this is the imagery of you late at night looking at videos on your computer 'Laughing out loud' at the idea that the planet is spheroidal, whilst clutching a rosary and praying to a cross on the wall.
