Curve ball, Ex AC team American Magic getting into bed with SailGP.
Anyone in the know how far into bathers beach are they running? I'd presume it'll be the start/finish zone, and won't be right in? No room in there for manoeuvres on a GP 50 at 30/40knots plus, let alone a number of them.

The action/view from Bathers is limited, certainly will be able to see what's going in. Was down there yesterday and they will have massive screens, really important. Bathers is being set up like the AC fan hubs which have been a huge success, I reckon possibly the best place to be part of the event. The reality is the yachts are travelling so fast you almost need to watch screens and the water simultaneously to keep a track of it all. A great day out for sure.
Thanks for that. I'd imagine they're going to make it as hard as possible to watch live if you've not paid for tickets. I'll probably be watching it on tv unless some miracle happens.
Just wanted to know how crazy its going to get.
Ive been watching it for free on Kayo for the last few years and looks like it will be this season too.

The image above is SWE with Nate Outerridge at the helm yesterday. Not Ai... Full send in 20-25knts!
Hope they didn't break anything on their brand new boat, I reckon the crew will all be needing new undies.
The cost of a meeting with the doctor in Freo.

Believe so, Chris Draper.
Racing scheduled between 1.00 and 2.30pm? I know the Ledge to Lancelin tried to start early, but that was to keep it safe picking up stragglers in daylight. Spent hours baking in the sun waiting for the breeze to kick in.

Reckon it's all about viewing schedules.
However in this case, it's wise to hook into the early wind as the seabreeze pushes in harder during the arvo. Looking spot on for the weekend, not too hot and imagine they'll be sailing in 15-20knts.

Or maybe they don't want the solid 23knot repair bills? The practice session on Tuesday was next level above 15-20. They'll go plenty fast in 15-20 if they rig the right wing. Today's forecast is about the same. It's now 1.30, It's currently 10-15. The old question. what are they going to rig?

Reckon the weekend will not be as dramatic as Tuesdays ****s and giggles. We had the 30knt+ belter Monday (4.0 for me) and Tuesday was hot before that washy/gusty breeze pushed in that they had to deal with. The weekend looks far more settled, but Tuesday has probably put the crews on notice they'll need to survive to win.
Russell will be telling the teams to protect the assets first and foremost. Long season ahead with SYD+AKL coming up shortly. They'll run as this is the antidote for the windless venues and there's more hype/investment than ever before
Is it worth heading down for a squizz? Will us non paying punters have a vantage? Any recommendations?
We had a watch on wed from North mole, quite a good viewing spot actually. But they've closed that now. I think you've gotta have paid to get close from here on in.

Been scouting free spots for a few friends but they've got it locked down. Might be able to see something from the rooftop bar at the National Hotel??? Reckon you'll need to be there at opening as everyone will be thinking the same thing.
Was cool late yesterday having a beer at Gage Rds watching the boats roll slowly past in the river and being lifted out after the days training. An option to at least see the boats after proceedings.
Brilliant as ever to watch it in Freo yesterday, sensational viewing from the south side. Also had friends in the main grandstands on South Mole & they were equally stoked to see the boats come and go from the river plus had second to none views of the entire race course. The whole event is pretty amazing, Red Bull stunt planes, the various helicopters, chase boats... WOW!
Bloody big day out and backing it all up today. Enjoy day 2 breezers.
SBS is showing it live, good coverage of today's, shall watch again tomorrow, 1-230
Thought it would be boring ![]()
Very wrong they fang around a tiny course. 90+km ![]()

NZ penalised.......rightly so.
Cannot believe Burling thinks others should "make room" for him. What an ego.
That's a wrap, GBR win the event sailing brilliantly all day. AUS second and France 3rd. Amazing to see the F50s in 15-25knts. Great weekend.

Awesome! GBR are solid!
Amazing to see Glenn Ashby slot into high performance with a second place for the Roos.

The fishing's good, and as a kiwi I'll bite ![]()
Absolutely no doubt about port starboard and getting a penalty.
His point is that the collision could have been avoided.
Having the transom taken off just behind you is dangerous
and the Swiss should also have a small penalty for collision.
Remember Tom sailing onto a course marker to avoid a collision with another boat and for crew safety.
Stadium sailing in extremely fast boats in a small area there are always close calls but keep it safe.
Can't wait for Auckland, but for sailing you're in the gustiest part of the harbour to accommodate close grandstands ![]()
