Turn the monitor on its side.

I think I've figured out the helicopter blade illusion....

As the shutter diaphragm opens, the centre of the frame is exposed first.. that's where the tip of the blade was at the time.

Then as the shutter opens further and exposes the edge of the frame, the blade has moved, resulting in a curved blade.

But the centre is not over-exposed or blurred, so I am guessing that the camera's electronics progressively stop processing data from any part of the sensor that has reached the correct exposure? Or else, just radially from the centre during exposure?

Anyone have a better theory?
