I've never understood the hate directed towards cyclists.

It's the fact that so many cyclists ride with a huge sense of arrogance. They run red lights, don't stop at stop signs and basically ignore all the road rules that don't suit them. Then they complain that we don't give them enough respect as road users. They also tend to love riding on highways despite there being a dedicated cycling path off the road right next to them...holding up traffic in the process. Oh and let's not forget the douchbag lyrca **** that ride in packs of 30, 4 abreast going 20 km an hour in a 70 zone.

But the worst of all has to be how they really think they're all doing the world a favour. You're not.

I was once driving and there was a cyclist ahead. Not only did I have to slow down to over-take, I also had to indicate. Aaaaarrgh...the effort!

People's attitude towards issues like this is a great litmus test for a level of intelligence, understanding and empathy. The Aussie way, is my way, and only my way.

I ride 6-7 times per week and ride within the rules of the road and my rights as a cyclist. I have no issue with dobbing in a motorist to the police if they have taken an ignorant approach to the rules of the road.

I love you how seam to have bridged the gap between someone disliking cyclists to them being an abusive road user.

Pull your head out your Lycra covered arse, dickhead.

Geez, god forbid someone dislikes your little hobby...get over it.

a rare find is a yonnie-free road, but such a find = scab-free knees and elbows

i enjoyed the first bit of the vid, and lycra lizzards often cause some grief, but have to agree that running up the bum of a fairly innocent cyclist who is travelling at "arguably" a safe & leasurely pace, and then making light of it, was disappointing

Long boarders skate past our house as we live on the side of a hill and the streets zig-zag down it. I think they're great, they sweep the street for us before they start!

Although...I still think cyclist should have to pay to register their bike if they want the same rights as the rest of us. I have to pay a rego on all my cars to be allowed to use them on the road. I still cannot see why a cyclist is any different? But I'm happy to be informed.

I love that argument. You think we cyclists don't own cars too. Infact I own 4 registered vehicles so using your argument I have more right to the road than you do, so if you see me cycling, please pull over to the side of the road so I can pass, ta!

I too ride a bike for pleasure and have been yelled at, sworn at, and near missed by arrogant drivers more times than I would like to recall.

I hung up the gloves in Sydney 20 years ago after two crashes and a near miss with an idiot who overtook me on the left in the carriageway doing well over 120kph on a 3 lane road with a speed limit of 90. I quit after that day.

I've started again in WA and love it. I choose not to ride at peak hour because of some of the idiots in what seems to be predominantly older model Toyota Land cruisers.

I ride with Reli on Saturdays where we start in the dark and finish our ride by the time most people are crawling out of bed and we ride in peleton and only ever two abreast.

I used to think Perth was great with all the cycle ways, but these are mostly useless as they are shared pathways with dog walkers, pedestrians, etc. You simply cannot maintain a good speed and ride on these pathways. Many cycle paths are also concrete and the gaps between the sections are often quite wide or out of level so they are like hitting a 2 inch bump. Not good on a decent racer at speed.

Fix the cycleways to a reasonable extent and make them for cycle use only and you'll clear the road of cyclists. In general, we don't like mixing it with red neck 4WDers with no respect, we just have little choice.

I also currently own 6 different road registered vehicles; 2 x trucks, 1 x car and three trailers. I reckon I pay enough road tax to be allowed to use the roads on my bike.
