There's a lot of disappointed punters out there. I voted for Yeasayer (2 songs), Gorillaz (2 songs), little red, Art v Science, John Steel Singers and a few other esoteric selections.

PS - Don't blame me, I didn't vote for J + A Stone.

Worst crew ever...

The CD player in my car has been working much harder since Tom and Alex took over...

It puzzles me why they keep flogging them, giving them the highest profile time slots, the most promotion etc etc...

They lost me before they even started with one promotional thing - "Tom and Alex, sex for your ears..." yeah right...

The old folk have spoken

Your dads didnt like your music when you were younger either.

And I bet in your younger years you thought you would never become uncool like your dads and keep listening to JJJ the youth radio station.

Your now only 2 steps away from wearing your shorts pulled up to your nipples and
and finding a grey hair in your pubes

i dunno, could be, but i think there was a concieved change in the programing about 7 years back.

my local radio zzz is a "youth" station and it is truely alternative which is what JJJ was supposed to be. there is lots of excellent music out there in my opinion.

Totally agree about what I remember as Double J, gone to the crappers. But what about some of the "talent", especially the women that have been promoted by them over the years. Casey Chambers, Missy Higgins, Clare Bowditch, Washington, the Stones(ha) not Keith, Julia and Angus, Geez!!

I think JJJ had its zenith in the 90s with Helen Razer and Mikey Robbins on breakie, the Morning Show with Angela Katerns and good music shows in the arvo. The drive show had a few interesting hosts like Judith Lucy and Paul McDermott. Plus we had Flacco and Sandie.

Always entertaining and interesting.

When in Mandura a few years ago I bought Sandie's book at a second hand bookstore. Observations from a moving vehicle. Not a bad read.

Yeah I'm old but to be honest I don't care and the current listeners of JJJ are missing out.

^^^^^^who are these people you talk of???

I think every generation of people will say the same as you guys are saying.
"the young whipper snappers dont know what their missing out on....back in MY day........"

As I said before,,,your dads would say the same thing about your music when you were younger in the 70's.

Yeah I agree, although i'd include up until after Adam Spencer and Will Anderson hosted the morning show (must have been early 2000's?), they were pretty awesome I reckon. Since then, around 2003 I reckon JJJ has been a on downward spiral of epic proportions. Maybe it's me getting old (30) but these days I can't bear to listen to JJJ :( It would be interesting to see some figures on their audience share variation over the years.

JJJ is still the goods. Its just Tom n Alex that are no good. Some of the crap that comes out of their mouths just makes you cringe.

Agree Jet Plane top 5 but not number one.

JJJ is at its best over the Xmas break when all they do is play music.

Hi Peeps,

Triple J hasn't been good for many years. Anyone old enough to remember the days of 2JJ in Sydney, will know what I'm talking about.

JJJ used to be truly aternative, always challenging your notions of "norm" by throwing some crazy stuf at you, some was good, some not so good. Nowadays, they have become so main stream and the top 20 songs are on high rotation everyday. I listen to it in the shop most of the day but can't stand the repetition after a while and so switch over to ipod or nothing at all.

Tom and Alex are tools, as was "the doctor". Uninspiring hottest 100 this year.

I wish JJJ would go back to a more underground alternative station, if they did, most of todays youth would tune out but we'd be faced with some truly great and interesting music.

That song was number 15 last year. It is a winner of a track though.

Has anyone else noticed that every time the doctor is talking to an international band he always seems to throw in a "Yeah I remember this one time when MY band". Every time. Doc, no one cares about your has-been band.

I think music has changed and JJJ has changed to accommodate it.

Music today is manufactured to a market and disposable.

Gone are the collectors of that rare piece of vinyl signed by Syd Barret and discovered in a dusty box in an old second hand record shop.

There were days when music meant something, it was a voice of a generation. Now its all about ass tits hoes and niggahs

sounds to me like theres alot of people getting old and stuck in music grooves.
Out our way, JJJ drops out 60kms Nth and Sth, 90kms west and 10kms east, the local AM station 6KG ( ONLY the best of the 70's 80's AND 90's) drops out at about 150km, then its ABC national.
I have all the radios set for JJJ, and love to hear new music that the comercial FM stations will be playing in 6 months
I reckon this year has been one where Aussie hip hop has really started to get a sound of its own , by incorporating more guitars, usually courtesy of other aussie artists. There was a massive number of Australian artists this year . I think they sayed about 50% of the songs..
.......

ok , tom and alex are not so good and the doctor is a bit of a tool without his mate, but thank you auntie for JJJ

Yep - remember JJ days and also the arrival in the West too.

It's not just about getting stuck in old ways/toons

The OLD JJJJ used to mix it up far more than the conservative charting high rotation bollocks they rotate non-stop today.

Nuttin on JJJ these days makes anyone wanna smash **** up and disobey authority like it used to.[}:)]

Beige at it's most exciting.

Also there is a complete lack of knowledge and/or respect for that which came before and forms the influence (if not 80% of the samples) for what is squeezed out of the production tube today.

the doors were wellll before my time, yet I love em coz they were smokin hot and original. Same for many many other bands.

I'm not sayin JJJ need to play greatest hits all the time but one classic an hour (and less mindless jibber jabber from Tom & Alex etc) that introduces a great act (rather than re-introduces) to a new audience is not too much to ask.

A wisened music afficianado told me recently that JJJ had a comp where the answer was the Pixies (Q was a very well known track) and it took eons to get an answer.

Funny thing is most of the acts played by JJJ know their chops and referances but the audience remain ignorant and JJJ ain't helping.

Music should be good enough to be timeless, not myeehhh, whatevs after 2 weeks.

Don't be a fraid to play a track over 12mths old. If it's really good it'll always be good.

Old timer ranta rant rant - over

Anyway I'm goin back to listening to RTR.
