They have a quite a painful bite but not life threatening unless you have some weird allergy. I used to catch insects and feed to one on my patio once. Had to stop in case it got hungry in the night and came knocking on the door demanding flesh. It was HYOOJ!!

I've only ever seen two of these horrible things, one was on the track between Wedge and Lano, I thought it was a Funnelweb and captured it and took it to the museum for ID. And the other was in my sisters shower at Two Rocks, arched up in attack mode coming at my foot. Scared the piss out of me!

Nope Mouse Spider Pup, very closely related to Funnelwebs and just as toxic. Very widespread across Oz but also very reclusive, the female never leaves her burrow and the male only travels to get laid after which he ends up dead. Funnelweb anti-venom is effective should you ever have a run in with one.
They're part of the mygalomorph family which contains just about every nasty, evil looking spider on the planet, Tarantulas, Funnelwebs etc 360 million years of evolution all rolled into one nasty creature that can bite through shoes, fingernails etc

I didn't know there was a banana plantation on GI, could've been a Northern Funnelweb too if the nanas were imported from QLD and it hitched a ride.
Wolf Spiders tend to be a more mottled colour than Mousies ala this



Usually not as stocky too, although I've run into some serious beasts turning over logs looking for bait when trout fishing down your way. They're not aggro like Mousies either, those phuckers are the Honey Badger of the arachnid world.
