I was doing a bit of surfing, When I found this,

: The 2003 Australian Burden of Disease Study indicates that tobacco smoking was second behind overweight among the leading causes of burden of disease in Australia. It was estimated that tobacco smoking was responsible for about 8% of the total burden of disease and injury for all Australians (9.5% of total for males and 6.1% of total for females) (AIHW 2006: Begg et al in press).

If tobbacco smoking is only the second highest killer, Shouldn't we be targeting obesity in the same way,
Maybe all chocolate bars should have horrid pics of obese people with rotten teeth on them, ass cheeks hanging over the edges. maybe Fatal heart attack scribed on the top
or change the name to wheeze and cough bars
The government, If serious should just ban cigarettes
Instead of taking kickbacks,
As far as I can see,
If I don't die from a smoking related illness,
I will die from something else,
noone I know has given up and lived forever,
Get A life you useless sheep,
(rant over)

Fat is just you saving and storing energy on your body,Im fat, its good for the cold, I save coal power with my fat by not having to turn the heating on. Julia and her carbon tax brigade should be thanking fat people of Australia for saving energy not taxing us more. we should charge storage fees for all the inert energy we are storing.

As a 15 yr smoker I can see a whole bunch of pathetic smoker self-justifications there.

As a 2 yr non-smoker I can say Just give up. It's really not that hard when you make your mind up. Old smokers are sad.

If you can't see how you could ever give up, start lurking here instead of seabreeze.

So kiteboy, are you one of those ex smokers who is going to start preaching to us smokers who enjoy having a puff. Some of us don,t want to give up (just yet anyway) . The only people that do give up is those that want to , not those that are nagged to give up. Looked at your e cig forum, no calender girls there so I for 1 am staying right here

Hell yeah I am. I have earned that right by going thru the pain of giving up and coming out the other side free for the rest of my life. I intend to enjoy the smug fully.

Funny how things change tho, I swore I would never be one of them...

I came last time to say that the gov't can't ban smoking. The civil unrest would be too great. After banning ads, banning sponsorship, pushing smokers far outside, hiding them in shops, graphic warnings on packs, plain packaging, shock TV ads, and taxing the hell out of them, they are running out of ways to fight smoking.

Logically all they have left is to keep ratcheting the tax up because people will just grumble a bit every time the price goes up a dollar, and a few more will cut back or quit, but most will just sigh and bend over a little harder. Think you're paying a lot now? You aint seen nothin yet.

Smoking is intrinsically appealing to everyone - it's in our genes. A lot will deny this, but I reckon it's true.

There's 2 main reasons for this.

1. It is a demonstration and reminder of the fact that we, as a species, can harness and control fire. This is one of the main things that sets humans apart from other species and has allowed us to be where we are today in terms of civilization.

2. For a long time, and until relatively recent times (the use of electricity and the industrial revolution), we were surrounded by fires. Cooked on em, socialised around em, stayed warm by em and used them to communicate. Then, within the blink of an eye (in evolutionary terms), we started living in clean boxes where all the energy requirements were fed by fires that happened a long way away (coal fired power stations). Our bodies that had evolved to get their daily dose of smoke suddenly lost it and wanted it back.

3. It looks cool and satisfying (I know, I said there were 2 reasons, but I just thought of this one.

Smoking stinks, costs money and in the end you will probably end up with emphysema or worse. Not to mention the burden on the health system.

There doesn't seem to be any real advantages in smoking although big Tobacco thanks each and everyone of you...I am sure they will be there looking after you whilst you have your first round of chemo or heart bypass.

Smoking, Yuk.

Just keep saying no to the little Nicotine monster and eventually he leaves.
Its not easy at the start but nothing worth it ever is. But stick with it and you will be jumping out of your skin the changes are so good.

Oh and bonus!!

you have probably saved nearly 200 bucks so far. Go and treat yourself. You deserve it.

Go the cold turkey Mark.

The only real way to give the butts the no butts.

Feeding the addiction with patches doesn't seem to work (so the stats seem to show). It makes you more agreeable whilst you aren't actually smoking but sooner, rather than later you will have to actually beat the addiction (not the ciggies as such) to win the war.

You will no doubt be as crabby as fek, argumentative and a pain in the freckle to everyone around you [this would be the op for many folks on SB to have a crack right here ] but stick it out and it will pay BIG didvidends.

Go bush for a week away from the fam.. somewhere windy preferably.. and it will be far more agreeable than work and the daily grind, after a week you may even catch yourself not wanting one for the 1st time.

Gave up smoking for E-cigs a year ago, still a nico addict though, but at least im not spending $5000 a year on smoking, spent $800 on nico juice and devices in the last 15 months.
My lungs are clean now, can take a deep breathe without a cough, can go out without even taking the E-cig with me. Can pump up my kite now without getting too buggered and can manage to fly it for longer than half an hour.

Kiting made me give up the Smokes.

Now I just have to lose 30 kilo and learn to get on the board

As a non smoker, why the hell should I have to walk though a cloud of stale cig smoke everytime I leave a shopping centre? I am so sick of the smokers 'demanding' their rights to smoke. What about my rights to breath fresh air? What about my rights to not have my tax money spent on all the illnesses that have been proven to be generated by smoking???
Every time I see a smoker that is demanding the right to be able to smoke when ever they want, all I see is a very selfish person who has very little regard for others around them.
If you are a smoker who doesnt smoke around others at all then you are one of a very small minority.
And its not just the smoke - its the butts as well. Those nicotine and tar concentrated packages litter the streets, finding their way into the waterways etc causing all sorts of damage.
So for the sake of other people, the environment, your family and ultimately yourself - give up smoking.
