In those terrible dark days, before the blessed unification of humanity, anarchy reigned in the world. One nation would attack another, no better than predators in the wild. Nations had no long-term coherence; voters would swing from one party to another, keeping governments always in transition and confusion. How did anyone ever think that masses of semi-educated people could govern themselves, and run a complex society? Democracy was an ill-conceived experiment that led only to corruption and chaotic governance. How lucky we are to be in this well-ordered world, where humanity has finally grown up, and those with the best expertise make the decisions for the whole globe.
...
The pursuit of money is the root of all evil, and the capitalist system was inherently corrupt and wasteful. Anarchy reined in the marketplace, as corporations blindly pursued profit, with no concern for human needs or for the Earth. How much more sensible are our production brigades, producing only what is needed, and using only what is sustainable. Capitalism encouraged greed and consumption; people struggled to compete with one another, to 'get ahead' in the rat race. How much wiser we are now, to live within our ration quotas, and to accept our assigned duties, whatever they might be, in service to humanity.
...
How scary were the old days, when unlicensed, untrained couples had total control over vulnerable children, behind closed doors, with whatever neuroses, addictions, or perversions the parents happened to possess. How did this vestige of patriarchal slavery, this safe-house den of child abuse, continue so long to exist, and not be recognised for what it was? How much better off we are now, with children being raised scientifically, by trained staff, where they are taught discipline and healthy values.

The pursuit of money is the root of all evil, and the capitalist system was inherently corrupt and wasteful.

Evil, corruption and wastefulness exists in Capitalism, Fascism, Socialism and Communism. It is an inherent part of human nature, and thus any system that man creates.

I could just quote Ayn Rand to counter, all afternoon.

There is nothing to take a man's freedom away from him, save other men. To be free, a man must be free of his brothers

So you think that money is the root of all evil? Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?

Money demands that you sell, not your weakness to men's stupidity, but your talent to their reason.

For centuries, the battle of morality was fought between those who claimed that your life belongs to God and those who claimed that it belongs to your neighbors - between those who preached that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of ghosts in heaven and those who preached that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of incompetents on earth. And no one came to say that your life belongs to you and that the good is to live it.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said we need a world government.

Exactly. But if you look at the world and what is happening at the moment, the biggest issue is the need for a world government. There is no other way out. It will happen, in 50 years maybe, but it will happen.

The solution has already been proposed... monetary and fiscal union. Central banks will lend to who ever needs the liquidity at fixed exchange rates.

www.theguardian.com/business/2011/nov/30/world-central-banks-act-credit-crunch
...
The Bank of England joined the Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan, the ECB, the Bank of Canada and the Swiss National Bank in taking the measures. Stock markets around the world surged after the central banks said they would cut the price of emergency dollar loans to cash-strapped banks by 0.5 percentage points, and extend the scheme until February 2013.

They will also establish "temporary bilateral liquidity swap arrangements" between one central bank and another, allowing liquidity to be provided at short notice in any currency "should market conditions so warrant".

Yeah, but I prefer to take my Banking advice from Jake "the snake "Roberts. and all legal and constitutional matters are dealt with by Steve "stone cold" Austin.

A really funny take on some recent developments in Africa. A tad sad though because Mugabe would havr been long long gone if the humanitarian excuse given for invasion of sovereign territories was the truth

I would have thought every conservative would be cheering Gillard tonight. Every conservative in Australia seems to think we must have a nuclear reactor on every corner. Even though no one in the private sector will build one in Australia because of the huge cost. Personally I think it might be wise to leapfrog this technology and grasp the emerging, more long lived technologies.

I know bugger all about energy generation but it seems to me that every conservative wants us to dismantle our coal fired power stations and replace them with nuclear. the conservatives who want to do this don't even believe in global warming , so why go to the expense of going nuclear when according to the same people we can just keep digging up coal and burning it....... because GW is a hoax? But anyway given that new solar technologies will become much more cost compeditive after the introduction of the carbon tax. On this issue I reckon we must look at the horizon rather than whats in the rear view mirror. Anyway the dog just dropped an enormous fart I cant stay here

I just thought that all the labour crew may be a tad crapped off that about 186 votes against selling yellow cake to India ( who won't sign an agreement saying they won't blow the crapper out of their neighbours with it ) looses out to 206 ish votes for ,the above senario .

Doesn't seem real left wing to me , more like Julia gets her way with a tiny majority on the vote .

Who said Labor was left wing? More like right of center. They moved in to fill the void left by Libs who moved to the far right. The Greens are more your lefty party.

186 to 206 sounds like a reasonable majority to me - 40 out of 392... 52% of the delegates in favour. How big a majority would they need before it's a 'real' majority?

The latest move, media campaign vs Russia... makes perfect sense. Russia will soon be China's only oil provider, lock it up and China becomes energy starved, or it develops alternatives.
If it develops the alternatives, it then provides a nice bounty up for grabs.

More immediately the media campaign ties Putin up domestically, so as to make Syria easier.
