Once again, does not work for voicemail
I have discovered a bug with the NoLed, when you activate the clock to display on the off screen or sleep mode for some reason it lights up the back and task buttons, the two buttons below the screen on each side of the home button. The problem becomes when the phone is in your pocket it continually vibrates and beeps when the buttons touch your pocket. During normal off screen mode the buttons are not active. I could change settings so no vibrate but I like vibrate on touching a button.

Bear with me, this isn't my strong point. When I walk into the room after being away for an hour and my phone is sitting on a table I want to be able to just glance at it and visually see if someone has called me and left a voice mail for me on this phone which has the screen off. The screen is off because it will only stay on for 10 minutes max. The iphone will do this but i cannot get my Samsung S5 to do it.
Can the service provider change this? Actually I was on the phone with them for many hours

You want to see a message when the screen is off. This is impossible.
You also want the phone to know it has missed a call while not in range. This is also impossible.
You are being impossible. i feel sorry for your service provider.

Actually the NoLed app is giving me nice notifications on the off screen or sleep mode.
When you think about it there is no excuse for not getting a notification of a missed call when my phone is out of range, the provider knows of this call, it just isn't getting it to my phone.
Also if someone calls when I'm talking to someone else I get no record of who called.

Do you mean the LOCK SCREEN when you say "off screen"? That makes a lot more sense.
If a screen is off it won't show anything, because it is off. If it shows something it is not off.

Fruit company will show missed calls in the phone app, and there'll be a red number on the icon to show how many missed too.

If your phone is out of range when the call came in then it is up to your provider to SMS you that there is a new voicemail and/or missed call.
Fruit company shows SMS on lock screen.

I'm sure the Samsung does all these basic functions too because it is superior in the way it copies everything little thing the fruit company does, or is rumoured to be doing.

A missed call is an incoming call you fail to answer. I am referring to a call made to your phone that never got there, someone tried to call you but your phone did not have enough signal strength to receive it or your phone was turned off. The call reached the provider but failed to make it to your phone. The provider should know of this and notify you.

To be clear Evilpanda, a lock screen is what you get after you swipe the off screen.(Phone on, screen off) It will display limited data and notifications and be asking for your password to unlock the phone. Usually the lock screen is black and white or in my case brown and white colors. The lockscreen will display notifications and the notification bar can be pulled down in some cases.
It appears perhaps the Android phone that comes native with notifications on the off screen are some Motorola Droids, support.motorola.com/us/en/solution/MS95499
Iphone has this and there are apps for Android phones that work with various success.
