When I was about 10, my first album was "Gunfighter Ballads" by Marty Robbins, it contained his first hit "El Paso".



Wow, that's a coincidence.
That was my first album too.
I was looking for something else today and there it was, good as new in my old album collection.
It cost me about 30 shillings and sixpence, or thereabouts. That's about 3 dollars and if it sounds cheap, a weeks wages for the average yob was about 12 to 15 pounds in 1959, i.e 24 to 30 dollars, so 3 dollars for a record was a lot of money. Probably about $75 in todays money.

It was my favorite record for a year or two, mostly because of the 'El Paso' track.
And in case you philistines don't know it, here it is;-



I also liked 'Big Iron'


I hope you note that it was in the days when you could actually hear what the words were, unlike most of the stuff which comes out today.
