If dishwashers cost $10,000 I'd still buy one and consider it money well spent!

Our Miele dishwasher is awesome, bought it 6 months ago. Very quiet washes perfectly and the dishes come out dry. Been told to only use powder and rinse aid not powerballs and use about 1/2 to 2/3 of the recommended dose. Works perfect. Bosch do make some good ones but make sure if you go that way you only get one with the stainless steel bottom inside not the plastic ones as they are not made in Germany.
Asko or Miele would be my advice. I think they are about as good as each other

We have decided our clothes washer and dryer are unnecessary and perhaps likely to break down so we've sold them. Washing clothes by hand only takes a few minutes a day and they dry just fine on the clothes line, gives my wife and kids something to do.

^^^ that's just silly, a few minutes stirring in the tub ain't gonna be the same as an hour or two tumbling in the washing machine.

Came here to say that the only 2 x dish techs I've talked to both said don't use tablets, powder much better for machine. I prefer it too you just pour some in and don't have to fiddle around opening plastic wrapper, touch the tab, put wrapper in bin, wash hands after.

you gotta pre wash the dishes most of the time anyway, just fill up the sink and wack in some liquid soap and there you go, i think its quicker than using a dishwasher, but i dont really care so use what ever you want really

+1
Had a dishwasher, spent more time pre-cleaning and bending down to load/unload the dishes.

Far quicker to wash by hand. Let them dry O-natural. 5-10mins a day.
Cost us around $10 a month for detergent and a brush.

What I save goes straight to the laundry dryer bill

Do what you prefer, but personally I would never ever live without a good dishwasher again. I do no pre-cleaning apart from a quick scrape over the chook bin. Even fry pans go straight in, I would wipe out any solid fat first, but anything else is fine.

If you have to pre-clean, you have a terrible dishwasher, most likely old too.

If I didn't have a dishwasher I'd probably get disposable plates and cutlery.

Definitely no going back to hand washing.

I love your journalism style typing kiteboy. Had a play with yours.

See even you still have to semi do the dishes...

Get a dog to pre-clean the dishes and cutlery before putting into the dishwasher.
