You haven't told us how California, with the 5th best employment rates and the 5th best crime rates out of 50 states, can be seen as "a mess" compared to most of the right wing states. Please explain.
Prop 47 reclassified theft offenses from felonies to misdemeanors, including shoplifting.
that's an easy way to reduce crime
Wrong again - totally wrong. Those classified theft offenses ARE STILL CRIMES. See the California Penal Code PART 1. OF CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS [25 - 680.4] ( Part 1 enacted 1872. ) TITLE 13. OF CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY [450 - 593g] and in particular 459.5(a).
You are completely and utterly wrong. A misdemeanour in California is still a crime. How do you just ignore facts that no reasonable person can dispute?
How can you be so sure about things like the classification of misdemeanours in California when you don't know the most basic facts about them?
.
In Western societies this generation is the first in many that looks like its standard of living will not be as good as the one before it. This is happening at the same time Western societies move more and more to the left.
That's not true. Tax rates have moved to the right, by favouring high earners. Differentials between the affluent and the average wage earner have increased dramatically - CEOs income compared to the average has increased by ten times since the post-war economic boom.
I notice that you make statements but run shy of providing evidence or any mention of objective measures - almost certainly because they will prove you wrong.
If you are such an expert why didn't you understand and recognise how far to the left the Republican Party platform of 1956 is compared to that of today? One doesn't expect you to pick up the exact facts, but the fact that you obviously had no idea of the way things used to be shows that you have no real knowledge of how they have changed.
Can't believe I didn't pick up on the 1956 Republican policy platform, you walked me straight into that trap, touche
The point was not to trap anyone per se - but to show how that your claims about others and history were untrue, to show how far the pendulum has swung to the right, and to show that Philn was perfectly consistent in being "Progressive" (which in US terms arguably means returning to 1950s Republican values) and in voting Democrat.
The period after WW2 when even "conservatives" often had values that seem left wing today saw huge advances in health, wealth and society in the western world. It's perfectly reasonable for Philn to want to return to that.
In many ways today's "conservatives" seem to be modelling their ideals on the period before WW1, and certainly before the Great Depression and WW2. That's arguably more regressive than it is conservative.
I call BS, no way would 1950's republicans support modern democrat values like
Transgender ideology like letting men pretend they are women, or assisting kids to mutilate their bodies
or
Open borders allowing millions of illegal immigrants into the country
or
not prosecuting thieves and criminals if they didn't steal over $950
or
abortion on demand
or
DEI actions
as a few examples
Can you provide an example of Democratic party policies to assist kids mutilating there bodies?
Because that's not happening.
Who's BS narrative are you swallowing?
The USA has open borders? Really?
Are you saying that there are no modern day Republican values that you find distasteful? You'd be on board with all the policies and promises Trump has committed to?

Democrats will vigorously oppose state and federal bans on gender-affirming health care and respect the role of parents, families, and doctors - Democrat Party Platform 2024
Giving a kid puberty blockers, that makes them sterile, is happening, surgical intervention is happening as well. That is literally assisting kids to mutilate their bodies.
As for open border I guess the 5 to 10 Million illegal immigrants in recent years got in through sealed borders.
How do just ignore facts that no one disputes
Best practice Gender affirming care does not support or recommend surgery on children, but looking at the numbers that get it anyway? About the same as under the Trump administration..... (less than 300 a year) but yeah it definitely all the lefts fault.
Puberty blockers are not just handed out to whoever wants them, and they're not supposed to be used long-term, even then the risk of sterility is low.
Waaaaaaayyyy lower than the risks of NOT providing appropriate treatment to kids suffering Gender dysphoria. (You do know what those risks are, right?)
Aaaaahhh so, The democrats are responsible for all th border issues? I thought Trump built a wall to seal the southern border?
I thought that immigration was one of his big ticket items? So why did he actively sabotage bi-partisan policy to improve border security?
I said 1950s republicans wouldn't support those polices, you said "that's not happening" so I provided evidence it is happening then I provided an example of Democratic policy supporting it.... at your request. Your post above confirms its happening.

Nobody since PM33 has been able to fire up the self-righteous like Mr Pres. Trump.
Maybe Trump will grant Pcd a seabreeze-ban amnesty as part of his victory celebration ?
Although I guess remery's long wished-for presidential pardon for his seabreeze crimes ain't coming no time soon now though.

You're still being dishonest - California is the 5th lowest state in terms of violent crimes and therefore this whole Prop 47 wild goose you brought up is irrelevant. You made a claim that is wrong and apart from making a claim that is completely wrong, you have provided no evidence for your claim.

Fair enough, don't disagree, its difficult to fit a detailed analysis into one sentence on a forum, you just have to do a bit of generalising for time to time.

The caps lock stuff was a direct cut-and-paste from the official website. Sorry if I upset your delicate feelings by not bothering to change the fonts, I didn't realise it would trigger you.
Yep, I admit I get surprised when people don't even fact check their own claims. But there is nothing with using normal means of emphasis in written English, and nothing "self righteous" about having a very strong prefence for the truth. If you don't rate the truth highly and are not familiar with the usual forms of writing in the English language it says a lot more about you than it does about me.

A short excerpt from George Galloway's breakdown of what happened. One of the few pundits to predict the outcome. The whole show is well worthwhile listening to. One of the very few politicians who has his finger on the pulse:
"Kamala was the candidate for women but most women voted Trump and overwhelmingly so. In the case of white women they kept telling you that women in America cared more about abortion than they did about the price of milk and eggs and housing and gasoline. They really believed that. But women in America need eggs and milk more often than they need an abortion.
This rabid preoccupation with liberal nostrums with a dogma more dogmatic than any of the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church, the dogma of liberalism is what has done them. They don't understand that the vast majority of the people out there in America, in Europe, all over the world, the vast majority of people out there don't give a toss about all that.
They are interested in their lives. It is the economy, Stupid. It is the sense of being secure and part of your own country and not being despised and reviled by the people who rule you ......"

It was the simple fact that America didn't vote for a woman in 2016, and were not going to vote for a black one in 2024.
Very easy to present 'why' arguements with hindsight.

California's decrease in incarceration stands out compared to nationwide trends, especially in the first two decades of the 21st century. In 2000, the state's incarceration rate was 7 percent higher than the US rate (excluding California); by 2010, it was 7 percent lower (see Technical Appendix Figure A1). Realignment in 2011 increased the gap to 15 percent lower. Then in the year after Prop 47, the state had a 20 percent lower incarceration rate. Since the pandemic, California's drop in incarceration has also been larger than that nationwide, and by 2022 (the latest year of nationwide statistics), the state incarceration rate was 23 percent lower than the nationwide rate.

Yes, I was watching polymarket go from 52% to 60% for Trump in the last month of the campaign. The polls and the media have been notoriously wrong.
I think these new crypto prediction markets - despite their bias of predominantly crypto users, and market manipulation - are more accurate, because people put their own money into it.
If there was one thing about Trump policy that I'm happy about, it is that crypto will be allowed to flourish. They are already talking about building a national bitcoin reserve.
More appealing, is that CBDC is now dead in America and more than likely will be dead in Australia.

That's why you never learn, your just stuck in same old victimhood mindset. Its always someone else's fault.

It's a very simplistic view to look at every issue in the world as left or right. It's actually moronic.
The terms, left/right wing were originally related to views of the ecconomy, nothing to do with social issues, thats a new thing.
Anyway, best you just F'Off to Florida and help fix up all the problems instead of attacking philin and his family.
...... The polls and the media have been notoriously wrong.
Not all of them. Moo Deng got it right.
Mind you at 295 to 243, all swing states, (probably) control of both houses and the most individual votes pretty well all the polls, all the experts and all the media got it quite, quite wrong.
Prop 47 reclassified theft offenses from felonies to misdemeanors, including shoplifting.
that's an easy way to reduce crime
Prop 47 is a decade old and has expired.
Prop 36 however, has the first two thefts under $950 would remaining as a misdemeanor - which is similar to Proposition 47 - but a person's third theft conviction, regardless if under $950 was stolen, would qualify as a felony and make a person eligible for prison time.
Sorry if I upset your delicate feelings....
Apology totally accepted.
But no upset feelings here. I'm lovin' it. Haven't seen this much seabreeze bitchin' since column 78 toppled over.
Oh, by the way other ****ed-up lefty laws in California include :
- A ban on women driving, if they are wearing a housecoat
- No hunting of moths under street lamps within Los Angelas town limits
- No whistling for lost canaries before 7am in that leftist of left centres, Berkeley
You don't get that nonsense in Wyoming.
Whey-hey. Lovin' this thread.
Edit : Hey Chris 249, maybe if you use CAPS LOCK and bold you can really self-identify as being right ?
I won't be requesting a pardon. As a sovereign citizen I expect the record of my illegitimate banning to be expunged.
The fact is that the 1950s Republicans were in many ways to the left of the Trumpists ...
To be fair though, I think Emperor Palpatine was to the left of most Trumpists..

Have yous spent much time in California?
Lots of people predicted it for sure. The legacy media certainly didn't.
I follow a few crypto pundits. Max Keiser, Stacy Herbert and Efrat Fenigson. And of course Nayib Bukele who has raised his country from the dead! IMO it's a better option than precious metals. Unfortunately both are at the mercy of the central banks which is where I believe the quest for liberty should be focusing their energy. The Yanks are now nearly $36 trillion in debt. Most of which has been squandered on BS agendas that enrich the few. To the detriment of the working citizen.
If I were pushed to adopt a political label I would class myself as a conservative libertarian socialist. Socialist because we are social primates and cannot thrive unless we all do. By the same token there is no way I can support the "woke" agenda because it is so far detached from reality. In actual fact I believe that a heck of a lot of it is devised to break down the bonds that keep our communities strong.
How am I supposed to know that, I've never been to California
Apologise to philin and his family.
Apologise to philin and his family.
Who is this philin character ?
Do they know valuable seabreeze.com.au forum member philn ?
Is valuable seabreeze.com.au forum member philn part of philin's family who are standing by waiting for an apology at the airport as they depart California ?
