But then again, if you look at the number of years of song composition represented on youtube, normalised by the year by year increasing composer population, maybe we can only expect that 1% of listenable songs are from the last 2 yrs. Cisco may be giving us a quite well balanced musical encyclopedia.

Well yeah. This was recorded only two months ago in JAMaica though the band has been around just about as long as anybody as has the song.

Maybe you mean COMPOSED in the last two years.

Believe it or not I do listen to all the music posts in this thread but if it is just jumbled sound, head butt or I just don't like it, I move on to the next one.

I really like that one and a half hour concert you posted by Full Fathom Five.

Then again it is hard to find GOOD (in the eye of the beholder) music that has been composed in the last two years.

I think it was Mick Jagger who said he is glad he started making music when you could still make money out of it.

In the digital age with file sharing, You Tube and all the rest of it, making money out of music must be extremely difficult for musos these days. No incentive = no creativity.

been trying to get to this since you posted but windfest stuff prevented it.

completely agree.

the good news is i think we are returning to the days of old. record companies have lost the initiative and bands are now via online means becoming there own bosses. the mp3 thing has had a big impact. but bands are returning to live work to get paid. no more of these overproduced studio albums thank goodness. just pure musical talent on display.

the other good news for me at least is the emerging trend to high quality downloads. you can now buy studio quality flac files and they sound truely amazing when you get the true studio quality ones at 24bit 96khz and up. dsd is also making some headway and that sounds almost exactly like tape to me.

tracking down new bands is an issue. i use online radio stations and a site called bandcamp. in more recent times i'm finding lots of exciting new stuff. it's out there for sure covering every genre but you just gotta keep looking.

i
m lucky i guess that i see live bands still, not every weekend like i used to when younger but i am at a gig every 6-8 weeks. sometimes more when i take the kids to free daytime gigs.

personally i reckon there is a renaissance going on in the music industry at the moment as the artist regain the control.
