Maybe nothing in the last 2 years appeals to Cisco's musical taste.

But then again, if you look at the number of years of song composition represented on youtube, normalised by the year by year increasing composer population, maybe we can only expect that 1% of listenable songs are from the last 2 yrs. Cisco may be giving us a quite well balanced musical encyclopedia.

Well yeah. This was recorded only two months ago in JAMaica though the band has been around just about as long as anybody as has the song.

Maybe you mean COMPOSED in the last two years.

Believe it or not I do listen to all the music posts in this thread but if it is just jumbled sound, head butt or I just don't like it, I move on to the next one.

I really like that one and a half hour concert you posted by Full Fathom Five.

Then again it is hard to find GOOD (in the eye of the beholder) music that has been composed in the last two years.

I think it was Mick Jagger who said he is glad he started making music when you could still make money out of it.

In the digital age with file sharing, You Tube and all the rest of it, making money out of music must be extremely difficult for musos these days. No incentive = no creativity.

Refer Ian K's comments.

Certainly difficult to find good live pub music these days.

Here is just a little bit of FUNK from yo' Average White Band which some o' y'all might 'member.

How could that not rock you???

Who say white men cain't jump????

If it don' grab ya, y'all welcome to just Walk On By.

Maybe you prefer The Stranglers version.

I reckon it is great, as is Dionne's rendition.

Then you have Issac Hayes doing a grand rendition as well.

Same song/music stylised with synth instrumentals and video.

So these are all great "recordings" to listen to of the same "composition" made over a large span of time which raises the question "Is any music being made today that will stand the test of time by being performed by artists decades from now???

If anybody wants to educate their mind to truly beautiful music, listening to Beethoven's five piano concerti is a good place to start.

He was the "heavy metal music man" of his time.

I was lucky enough to be borne by a mother who played classical music radio and recordings in the house at most opportunities.

Probably few, if any, people who contribute to this forum who could relate to that or the music.

Like most things though, a taste is not usually enough to tell if you like a thing or not. You need to savour and swallow to know if it agrees with you or not.

So here are the five Beethoven Piano Concerti. Listen to them or not. Those that do will be the better for it.

These are particularly good recordings with full video.

No.3 is where it gets dramatic. Keep in mind that Zimerman, the pianist, is playing totally from memory. No music sheets.

And the fantastic 5th. Grabs you by the guts right at the start.

I truly hope the noise of life does not rob you of the time to feast on this great music.

been trying to get to this since you posted but windfest stuff prevented it.

completely agree.

the good news is i think we are returning to the days of old. record companies have lost the initiative and bands are now via online means becoming there own bosses. the mp3 thing has had a big impact. but bands are returning to live work to get paid. no more of these overproduced studio albums thank goodness. just pure musical talent on display.

the other good news for me at least is the emerging trend to high quality downloads. you can now buy studio quality flac files and they sound truely amazing when you get the true studio quality ones at 24bit 96khz and up. dsd is also making some headway and that sounds almost exactly like tape to me.

tracking down new bands is an issue. i use online radio stations and a site called bandcamp. in more recent times i'm finding lots of exciting new stuff. it's out there for sure covering every genre but you just gotta keep looking.

i
m lucky i guess that i see live bands still, not every weekend like i used to when younger but i am at a gig every 6-8 weeks. sometimes more when i take the kids to free daytime gigs.

personally i reckon there is a renaissance going on in the music industry at the moment as the artist regain the control.
