so true . just sold my house with a pool and fark i am glad it's gone as of monday .

stupid rules like council regs . when we bought the place there was say a 1metre wide section of garden bed between the side fence and the edge of the pool . I was told to concrete it up as a child could dig their way underneath the fence and get into the pool . Don't worry about the bbq that was up against the fence, that apparently was safe :| also my outdoor setting even though it could be dragged over to the fence was less of a safety risk than some hard packed dirt which the pool fence went over .

also if your sand filter goes your looking at $1k minimum . salt cell $500 min , pump couple of hunge . Plus the fact you have to run the pump daily .

TBH i found it easier to wipe my arse with $100bill each night and then burn them .

So glad the new place doesn't have a pool . I'll just send the kid around to her grandparents and let her use their pool .

HI POOL RELATIVE
All i can say is GET ONE youll love it , i believe in the following

1 Self chlorine unit salt pool
2 Ensure you put it in some where ( so it gets as much sun ) youll be suprised how early into summer youll be using it .Northern sun aspect vital Cold pools sux
3 under ground piping etc think about where it can / will run .warm piping equals warm pool....
4 back fill with materials that absorb hold heat around it
5 Get rid of any trees and **** leaf dropping plants.
6 You will be suprised how much they evaporate over summer .store a bit of water (tank) for top ups it will save you a bit

The modern day pumps use mininal power you put it on a self timer twice day i running it over winter on approx 4 hours day aprox 8 0ver summer even less.

Chemicals cost a bit .....water has a funny way of balancing you dont need as much as you think..........by in bulk.

Council inspects pool fences and gates every 2 years as part of your rates and charge a little bit (no sort cutting the fence business) what a job ?

Get a good creepy crawley... They become your best friend

Back flush once a month or so...............

I reckon that's from the same half-arsed parents that say 'why do I need a pool fence?' - "it could never happen to me".

I'm paranoid coming out of a driveway when there are kids around. People should be, and the parents of the kids should also be paranoid about where the kids are.

(What's this 'just saying' business about? It's your opinion, and you are welcome to share it, even if it does disagree with mine )

I still cant work out if I need a pool fence. I live way out of suburbier, nearest neighbour 1km away and I have a dam 10m away from the pool. Seems stupid to fence it so I havent.

It will probably be pointed out as a defect when I go to sell it at any stage.

Lot's of people shonky it up and pump direct into the deep sewage, my uncle's been doing it for 25 years but I'm not sure it's legal or safe. Chlorine gas in confined spaces...?

If ya get a liner style pool.... Make sure the kids don't decide to play in there with the pogo stick, the rubber stoper is usually worn out by then and works as a great hole punch..

We had a pool in our last rental although it was ages ago it worked out well and we loved it.

We're going with a fibreglass pool - although i like Cassa's idea but i'm as handy as a chocolate teapot.
We've narrowed down our choice to one pool company and are now in a Mexican standoff as we negotiate price - this could take some time i think.

Mrs Rello and rello Jnr (and me if the truth be known) are very excited at the prospect. Just don't want the bull**** of uneven pool, broken house, and all the other stuff that can be associated with it.

Spoken with some mates today who recommended me to the people we had kinda decided on so feeling a tad calmer this evening.
Will post some pics when it happens

If its concrete and you ever need to remove it I can recommend the gang of Maoris that took ours out - cost me $6K.

(Couldn't get any machinery down the back.)

Worth every cent - the reclaimed land is worth $50,000.
