kitedevil, you is the man!!!!

...and funky, three to six months is the optimum storage time for the brew which is why i have so many bottles, although fully drinkable after two weeks just not as smoooth.

bottles apparently last 30-40+ brews.

and once it's tapped if you keep it gassed then i can't imagine it would go off anytime soon.

I also like Asahi, but I bought a carton when it was down around $45 a carton and I am sure it didn't taste anywhere near as good as normal. It is often anywhere around $70 or $80 a carton, so maybe they had stock that was old or left out in the sun or something?

Does beer get old and change taste?

The one thing that I know is it tastes like cr@p when it is chilled and then left to sit or in the sun and then chilled again
In the early days in Broome..this use to happen "ALL" the time...but hey..you had to drink it..as all the beer in town was the same...

Mass produced lagers do go stale after a while.
Also I found when I hit my mid 30's my taste in beer changed, used to hate Little creatures, now I love the stuff or anything with big hoppy flavour.
I find all the lagers I used to drink pretty bland these days.

Yes, definitely. It'll oxidise over time and get a weird flavour like port. Also, you need to be careful with beers in clear bottles. Strong light will affect any remaining yeast in it which ends up giving the beer a "skunk" flavour (smells like cat pi$$). Beer in green bottles is also susceptible although not as much. Beer in brown bottles is least affected which is why most beer comes in brown bottles.

Ok well doggie..can't find Millers Ice here in WA..so far..

So I have settled for "Fosters Light" for now..
at least it is lower in alcohol than Carlton Cold...3 of these and I has drunk
and 1 Carlton Cold is 1.2 standed drinks were the Fosters Light is .7
yes I know guys..this is a girls beer...but thats what I am...
Mind you Hahn Ice was a high Alcohol beer..and I could drink that not a problem..

Oh well Mr Hahn..does not give a brass razzoo if I need my Hahn Ice..

the very best beer I ever tasted was home brew made by me, funny though all my mates reckon it was gins p**s. My true fav. is coopers pale ale, one of the best things ever to come from SA. 4X aint bad tooheys new , hey I think they are ALL good!

Probably been said already in this thread - but beer is heat and sunlight labile. (hence brown glass)

Only beers that are bottle fermented (eg Coopers) will get better with (small - comparitive to wine) age - and even this is only under strict adherence to correct conditions. (I was lucky enough to have a pot of some Coopers Vintage that a mate had carefully laid down for a couple of years and broke open for the birth of his first child - sweet - but then I have drunk beer in NW WA that had obviously seen sun / temp and was only fit for snail bait)

The mass produced stuff needs to drunk ASAP otherwise it degenerates from its original character even without exposure to sun / temp.

Thanks guys. All this talk of beer and I had to go buy a few cartons for comparison. I am currently comparing Asahi to Grolsch, and I think Asahi has a stronger, but similar flavor. I suspect the testing will continue all week

On a related note, I did a volunteer job working behind a bar on a week long bike (bicycle) ride and noticed that there seemed to be people that would only drink Coopers Green and others that would only drink Coopers Red. I can't say I noticed the difference, but people seemed very particular to one or the other.
