This yacht was sailed from Spain (so I am told) and is now imported to Australia with paperwork done and duty paid etc.
It is only just a ketch and not quite a yawl as the mizzen mast is only a foot or two in front of the rudder post yet it has a substantial sail area for the mizzen.
Construction is of steel (hull and deck) and of excellent quality with use of stainless steel in all the right places.
The hull form is full in the bow where most of the ballast is located and it will be very slippery in the water. The draught is moderate with a full keel at around 4.5 to 5 feet and it was originally built as a bilge keeler. The bilge keels have been removed at some stage but the flanges on each side remain with a half to an inch of the old fins (see photos).
I suggest the yacht is better without the fins (probably fitted due to the tides of the Atlantic Coast of Spain) and that at each end of the flanges a substantial stainless steel lug be welded on to accommodate legs/struts that could be pinned on to allow bottoming out without the yacht laying over. That is entirely optional.
The yacht was located at Bundaberg Slipways when the floods happened and was only flood filled due to the sounder transducer being not in place when it all happened. It did suffer some damage but not catastrophic ie it filled with water, drained and left mud behind.
It has a $10,000 paint job on it (see photos).
It needs to be made floatable (put a bung in the transducer hole) and the engine rebuilt or replaced (rebuild estimated $3000, replace $17,000). I know the current engine is rebuildable but it is a Lister-Petter and the gearbox is a CRM 310 which are expensive to repair.
I believe I can get a Hyundai 60 hp engine with a ZF gear box, all marinised for around $12,000 brand new with warranty.
So the deal is I have been given a price to own it from the current owner which is a good bargain and the yacht has to be removed from the yard before Christmas.
I am prepared to take it on, but not on my own. As the yacht has three double cabins, I am prepared to take it on in a three party syndicate as a Queensland based luxury cruising yacht.
My qualifications are that I am a Navy trained fitter and machinist, Engine Room Artificer, USL Code Marine Engine Driver Class 1, Master Class 5 Open to 200 nm off shore and AYF Offshore Yacht Master.
If there are any interested in syndicating this yacht the entry capital required would be $20,000 and be covered by a legal document specifying rights and responsibilities.
Investment is estimated to cover purchase and refurbishment to a high standard that would transform the yacht to a market value very conservatively estimated at $120,000.
My caveat is that I would expect more than just dollar input from fellow syndicate members. Elbow grease reaffirms the sense of ownership.
I am not seeking to make a profit here. What I am seeking is like minded people who would love to cruise the Queensland Coast, with the odd well planned trip to Noumea or other destinations and doing it in great style without a huge financial burden.
Enjoy the photos.
