Who was carrying a kite & board 2 Mt kozi,Sunday
I was down at Thredbo riding downhill on Sunday morning when I witnessed a bloke head off from top terminal towards kozi with kiteboard in hand and cabrinha strapped to his back, to what I suppose to do was kite one of the lakes which I hope didn't eventuate..
National parks is pretty sensitive about the 4 lakes down there and winter kiting in general the last thing the winter kite community needs is a clown making a seen down there in summer for his satisfaction of kiting a 20m wide lake..
If anybody knows who it was clip him on the ears please..

Bashed up rental
Well some nice member of the public decided to do some free panel beating on my rental car and then selflessly left the scene before I was able to thank them.
So I'm preparing for the inevitable a$$ rapeing at the hands of the nice people at Budget car rentals.
What would be the best way to handle/lubricate the inevitable ramming that is in my not so distant future?
Report incident to police?
Preemptive quote from Smash Repair?
Report car stolen(hypothetically)?

Looking for Trainer Kite to buy?? Anyone!!
I know there is a for sale section but i only found one in there and it has two strings and since we are getting into the warmer season maybe can prompt someone to clean out there cupboards and sell your trainer kite that you don't use? Are two string trainer kites svn so bad??

I'm located in Victoria, Hamilton 3300 and can get down to Portland, Warrnambool, Portfairy, Fitzroy River etc or i guess could get it posted from afar. I'm new to the sport so any suggestions on buying a kite to train with. From what i can gather i should go for a three string for easier launching and about 2-3Mtrs.

Any ebay actions of gumtree etc that anyone might want to suggest feel free to drop some links in. I notice some $39 ones on ebay and there are from hong kong not sure what these are like. Cheap & nasty but if they work i don't mind.

Leech sunglasses
Rider: 70kg,advanced
Style: Freeriding, Surf, Freestyle
Weather: 0-25 knots
Build Quality: 10/10
Satisfaction: 10/10
Disclosure: no affiliation with Leech.

Hey folks,

Finally found something I have been on a very long search for: sunglasses that are not a PITA to wear while kiting.
I thought I'd share, it might help someone in their quest.

I've tried a bunch of different sunglasses over the years (had Ion, Kurtis, Oakley, Seaspecs,..., goggles & even masks), but I've never found a pair that really worked for me.
So my strategy for the last couple of seasons was to buy a few pairs of cheap seaspecs-like to go through the summer.
They always end up broken, lost and you don't see s*** after 10 minutes on the water but it was better than nothing for the summer sessions.

I don't need fancy sunnies but for kiting (and sport in general) I want them to be strong, safe, protective, relatively comfortable & floatable (if possible).

After hearing some good feedback about the Leech sunglasses, I decided to give a go.
There are many different models and I went with the Tornado which seems to be best for watersports, so here is my take on them.

* Safe:
The legs are made of soft plastic and are quite flexible. I think this is an absolute requirement for sport glasses: no metal! I 've spent a fair amount of time with the ski patrol in the Alps, the number of accidents due to glasses is just crazy ...
Some people go skiing wearing Ray ban, thinking they look cool, but one nasty face plant and it's gameover (leg of the glasses puncturing the eye, bad cuts, etc...).
The rest of the frame and the lens is also in plastic. The lenses are made of nine different layers that make them super scratch and shock absorbant.

* Strong:
Build quality is top-notch. I had a massive crash the first day I tried them on, my hands slipped in the middle on a F16 and I fell like a rock, head first, in (not enough!) water. That was bad, one of the worst crash I've had in years. I broke a footstrap, a fin (not sure why...) and my handlepass leach in the process but hopefully no broken bones...
Anyway, I was surprised that my glasses were still on, I had a leash on them just in case but they didn't even move.
So crash test results: 5 stars.

* Eye-protection:
One thing that made me turn away from my cheap glasses is the quality of the lenses.
Sure they were tinted and helped to make the glare more bearable but I ended up with a cornea sunburn so I don't think they were so UV protective after all...
The Leech lenses are very good quality, there are different colors to choose from (copper, gray, yellow).
It's hard to estimate what's the real UV protection but I can really feel the difference at the end of the day (no red eye, no eye fatigue at all).
There are plenty of info on their website and definitely much more R&D behind these lenses compared to some random glasses you'd get off ebay.

* Comfort:
The contact areas are made of soft plastic. They fit very well, you can wear them all day, no problem.
The lenses have some a hydrophobic coating that works really well, the water just drips off.
I don't how long this will last but I've used them quite a lot and so far it's still super effective.
You just forget about the glasses and enjoy your session, that's confort to me.

* Floatable:
Yes, they do float. They won't swim back to you though...
But, the legs have holes to fit a strap so you don't have to chase them up. I've attached the Leech strap (which is also floatable), it fits perfectly.

Kiting in sunny conditions without any eye-protection is just as stupid & dangerous as riding without a kite leash, when things go wrong it's too late.
If you don't wear any because of the inconvenience (I didn't myself for years), you should definitely check Leech sunglasses out, I'm totally stoked with mine.

Cheers!

Chrono
So who has actually kited with one in light wind?

Recently moved from Broome to Nhulunbuy and whilst my 17m Zephyr was a great option for most of the time in Broome, I'm now in really light wind world and I'm looking at options. I'm 78kg and ride a Shinn Monk. Keeping in mind the majority of wind up here is light AND hot, so pretty gutless. I know a light wind board would assist but not that much I'm sure.

So...
Is a big, say 18m Chrono really as good as they say?
Are there other options?

Kitemagazine
In October last year one international magazine published one full page advert off my board sponsors in the time whit me on it but didn't put my name as a rider !
When I asked the brand representative in Australia and also my kite sponsor in the time why my name is not on it he sad ..sorry Leo we forgot , and told me that I was dreaming and I'm to old to get better deals or go to international comps over seas .

I reckon some sponsor should never say something like that for one off there athletes that is why I left!

Let's make a deal.
How about i don't bring my surfboard and ride aimlessly across your flat section of water, (getting in your way), while you do your tricksy, upsidedownsy thing - and you don't bring your little TT and mow the lawn up and down where the waves are (and get in my way and spoil a good wave)? Deal?

ROV Inspection Mindarie Rockwall
ROV Inspection Mindarie Rockwall

So we finally got one our ROV's into the water around the Mindarie Rockwall yesterday. And what did we see?. Not a whole lot unfortunatly.

We inspected about 80m of the outer side wall but came up empty. The footage can be viewed HERE http://www.hsss.com.au/sea-whats-below.html for those interested.

I think the best bet would be to burly up for a while first and then send in the ROV. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers
