I am currently sailing in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. I am doing the complete circumnavigation. For the last year I have kept a website, blog and video diary of my efforts to actually get to the start of the race which included a 1000km solo push bike ride from Sydney to Mooloolaba. The Sunshine Coast Daily did an excellent job of covering my efforts as well as ABC radio, Channel 7 local News and I am now being mentioned in articles by sailing magazines and of course the Clipper Race News.
I want to develop my profile - Because of my age and my story I feel that I will be able to connect to young people, particularly young woman and possibly reach a group of people not usually involved or interested in sailing.
I also want to use this high profile platform and capitalise on my role as education embassador to raise funds and awareness of Oceanwatch International, a not for profit group who works with sailors, divers and scientists to help coastal and island communities develop sustainable lifestyles and primary education.
I need a manager to develop my profile using social media exposure, organise guest speaker and presentation opportunities etc etc, and.... find me a major sponsor. I have a few events organised but they need to be managed and I am basically out of contact between ports now so it is becoming almost impossible.
There is 18 to 24 months of marketing opportunities to tap into and I am more than willing to share the profits. I have got something pretty much set up in Geraldton when the fleet stops over however there is huge opportunites in New Zealand and of course the Gold Coast as well as other ports along the way which included China.
I really don't know who to contact or where to go. I just can't seem to make people see the big picture. I am thinking of something like The Best Job in the World Campaign run by Hamilton Island, it is such a great opportunity to connect to young people about sailing and racing as well as goal setting and following through on your dreams. Meanwhile time is slipping by and this opportunity is in danger of being missed if someone who knows what they are doing does not take the reins soon.
Has anyone got any suggestions or can recommend any companies specialising in Sports Management and Marketing which is not based around football or field sports. I seem to come across tons of adds for uni courses and career information but I can't seem to find anybody actually opporating in this field except for a couple of major players who are more likely to be interested in Clipper itself rather than one tiny little crew member with enormous dreams.
