While is has been a great summer for bay sailing with regular afternoon seabreezes, it has been absolutely terrible for wavesailing!
With a decent South Easterly pattern and a bit of swell showing up on a Saturday it was decided to make the most of it and head to Gunnamatta.



Considering Gunnamatta's notorious reputation we had a great turn out with 20+ windsurfers showing up for a sail. The conditions weren't perfect but there were still plenty of fun waves to be had with the wind gusting up to 25 knots, cross shore and 3ft lefts peeling down the bank. Unfortunately the tide was coming in quickly and made the waves peakier and tricky to read.The shorebreak also picked up and was claiming a few victims, even some of the locals were getting caught out!





The day had an emphasis on fun so after everyone had their fair share of rides we decided to run a few low key expression sessions and final heats. In the tricky conditions Jono stood out nailing 2 nice forwards in a row, backing them up with solid riding and a bigger endo to top it off. Andy Ackland and Phil Vaudrey also scored some nice rides, with Phil just edging Andy out after getting an extra jump. On the other side of the draw Duncan Banks was consistently scoring some of the biggest waves of the day and Al McLeod had some decent rides to make it through.




By the time the finals were on the conditions had deteriorated with the tide reaching high - waves with scoring potential were hard to come by and ramps for jumps were tricky to find. It was close between everyone but Jono's form was consistent and he took the win over Phil due to a slightly bigger forward loop.
