Headzone A Different Way Of Coaching
Thought people might be interested in this as a way of improving their SUP Technique, we have found it invaluable.

When I posted this pic the other day, some people thought I was irresponsible allowing Kristi to paddle out in these conditions. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion and I take thier thoughts onboard.

What they may or may not have know is that even though Kristi was 500+m away from me I could talk to her like she was right next to me by using the Headzone radio helmet system! It allowed me to tell her to bail and swim through the back of the wave.

On this beach you cannot get line ups as the sand dunes in the foreground are higher than the back ground. The time between sets is quite long so there is no white wash to tell you where the break actually is. Its quite easy to get it very very wrong.

The radio system allowed me to put Kristi in the right position for the next wave and she got it easily because she was in the right spot.

We use the system to correct foot position, stance, rotation etc in real time as she surfs.

Lacey and Mac said more knee bend on back side turns and we got to this stance in one week:

I dont own shares in the company and they dont sponsor either Kristi or I.

I got the idea from seeing it being used at a Shayne Horan High Performance Clinic.

We have never looked back!

The system is very flexible we have used it for surfing, canoeing, wind surfing, directing people in photo shoots all sorts of applications

In 18 months we have had no issues at all.

The system is light weight and also provides head protection, the safety is an added bonus.

We have found it gives kids more confidence when training because its like you being right along side them.

Things to be aware of:

Pick the helmet size carefully, I bought a large and padded it out so they could grow into it or adults could use it as well.

Make sure you turn the radio off after use, I have been caught this way a few times with helmet charged and radio flat.

Put a spare magnetic key in your car or on your car keys as you will leave it at home.

Its pretty simple to use but if in doubt call Cye in customer service 5 mins with him and you'll be smokin it up out in the waves.

Kids Boards Imp 8'4 / 9 Naish 8 DC8.0, Strby 7.2
Well with 3 daughters between 8 and 14 we have had more exposure to kids boards than most. To get things going we had 2 customs made one for Nesha and one for Kristi as in 2008 there were few if any sub 9 foot boards.

The boards were hand crafted by Dave Boyd Imperial Surf, with full resin tints and were designed to be stable in the flat and with fin changes shreaders in the surf.

This is Nesha's 8'4 x 26 x 4 1/2 Dave Boyd Imperial Custom.

It will easily support up to 80kg and it shreads in the surf.

Kristi's Board is 8'9 x 26 x 3 1/4 full pink black and mauve tiger stripe.

This is the board that Kristi used to come 3rd in the womens division at Mambo Competition in 2009

Niki Has a DC 8.0 and is still learning to ride it.

DC 8.0 on left Imperial 8'9 on right.

We have also had a Starboard 7.2 x 30 x 6.

We always use soft fins for the kids so they dont get cut (Pics to come)
