OK, anybody who's bored with fin construction details blame Keef, I'm doing this at his request.

Basil has sliced me up some more end grain palm, and it's seasoned a bit more since the first one I made, so is a bit lighter.
First thing to do is mark out fin profile.

Then because the palm has very little cross grain strength, I laminate a layer of 4oz glass onto one face to hold it together while I cut it out and foil the other side.





Once the epoxy's set I can start shaping the first side, possibly get around to that tomorrow.

I'm thinking of doing some laminating with twill, but it seems to fray very easily around the edges. Has anyone heard of using hairspray to hold the twill in position while it's cut and laid in position for wetting out?
I've been using 93gsm for a fairly decent finish on some fins, but the carbon supplier has bought some cheap crap which doesn't laminate well at all and I'm unable to find 93 anywhere.

I have a couple of 32cm fins that have damaged tips, but I have no 28 or 30cm fins...

Going to try cutting them down using the angle grinder attachment I have for my dremel, any tips on how to thin the profile of the foil, or maybe just thin the last 5 or 10cm of the foil?

Tips appreciated, would like to keep it simple.
