Mast selection?
Guys- bare with me...
I am getting the bits together for a build- yes- I am going to cheat and build something along the lines of the Silence and not my own design for a first build.
So I am going to buy a windsurfer mast for this- I am thinking carbon, I am thinking no built in camber as I assume the mast is fixed and the sail should rotate in sleeve.
Questions-
1- is it a trick to make a carbon spar work in a socket reliably?
I see wall loading at where the spar exits tube as being different from how they are designed to function- a problem ?
2- Am I on the right track to buy a simple tapered straight tube?
3- Is carbon a problem generally?
Should I just pick up a alloy sectional windsurf mast?
I am in the marine business- have full capabilities for altering sails, high spec welding, composite work etc etc etc so the build out is no problem.
I do definitely want to build along the lines of the Silence so will not take up another plan with all this spelled out so have to figure out the bits as I go along.
Thanks all
