Hi Everyone the next SUPWA event is the Commonwealth Bank - Bridge the Bank SUP Team Challenge, Sunday September 16th.
The race is a relay for teams of 2 paddlers over 13km. The first leg is 8km and the 2nd leg is 5km. There are only two divisions:
1. Mixed - male and female
2. Male
Paddlers can use the same board or different boards. The boards will be handicapped using a novel system. Board length is totalled - ie a 12'6 and 14' board = 28.5/100 = 0.28. This factor is applied to the overall time. This means we can cater for multiple board lengths and keep the racing/results interesting.
There are 2 courses depending on the breeze direction. The first course will be from the Narrows Bridge in Perth directly to the change over at the Point Walter Spit (8km), then onto the Stirling Bridge in Fremantle (5km). The 2nd course will be in the opposite direction.
On the water safety will comprise of 2 safety boats and there will be officials to assist with the change over station at Pt Walter. The nature of 2 paddler/board team racing means it is very easy with car drop offs - plenty of parking at Pt Walter after dropping off at Narrows Bridge.
There is $1500 worth of prize money and prizes on hand. Our main sponsor Commonwealth Bank has put up the prize money and competitor bags. SOS Surf & Stand Up Paddle has put up prizes and door prizes. The Trade Winds have put up a $500 weekend stay at the Tradewinds for a lucky person/couple drawn at the presentations.
The presentations will be held at the Tradewinds Hotel immediately after the race. Meals are included in the entry fee and the venue is very kid friendly. There will be a draw for a Sly Dog Carbon Paddle from SOS Surf for all competitors that enter as well as the Tradewinds weekend stay prize draw.
Time ~ 0800 Narrows Bridge (note times may change if course direction changes)
Entry Fee - $20 for SUPWA members (includes meal at Tradewinds presentations). $30 for non-SUPWA members.
We have many events planned for the year, this is our fun event! If you want to get involved in racing and want to see some different winners, this is your event. Get the family down after as well.
Thanks to Cam and Luke as well as Scott from CBA, John from SOS Surf and the Tradewinds Hotel. Alot of effort has gone into this event.
Cheers
Greg
