Landyacht Register
Thanks to Iand for this idea!!

The purpose of this thread is to collect a register of all landyachts & Blokarts so that people interested in the sport can see what types are available, obtain some information regarding them and see who in their vicinity owns them. Hopefully this will enable them to make an informed decision regarding what type of landyacht they should purchase or build and who they can sail with locally.

Please include a picture of your landyacht and fill out the details in this template:

Class -
Length -
Width -
Mast Ht -
Approx sail area -
Location -
Sail Number -
Built by/purchased from -
Comments - (success, failure, problems, transport-needs trailer, where to get parts etc etc)

If you would like to ask any questions or post any comments please do so in this link: "Questions/comments for Landyacht Register"
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39430 so that this thread only contains landyacht details.

Ultimate Minis
I suppose people would probably prefer that the Fisly Mini Yacht specification doesn't turn into an arms race pushing costs through the roof........................but I can't help wondering what might be possible within this loose definition.

For example, you could go super-aerodynamic with none of the restrictions on fairing present in other classes. Or, given the relatively narrow width, do you need a conventional chassis at all? Could the hull be a full-width monocoque with the wheels mounted directly on the sides? Could you gain more stability and speed by making two seats side by side and shuffling your bum from one to the other on different tacks? etc. etc. etc.

As explained in my other thread I have basically zero practical landyachting experience (which will probably be obvious from the above!) but seem to be addicted after one quick spin in a Manta and have been browsing this forum for technical gems ever since. Thanks everyone for building such a great resource.

build a simple speedpod for your mini
there is always somebody asking about the seats we build for our minis and class 5 yachts so I thought I would do a step by step with plans and photos.
im teaching somebody to do their own, so this time I did drawings and plans on an improved seat to the one I put on "spirit of stupidity"
this one is slightly narrower in the bow and tucks in at the stern rather than being parallel. this will give a sweeter slightly more rounded shape.
it should suit up to a 6'er and people in the 50-90kg weight range. the max width could be increased if you have a weight centration based at the hips/lower stomach.the rear could be extended to include a complete seat back, but this one will have a tube frame /sling seat like the last 4 Ive built.
this is a laidback set up so if you cant layback or want to sit up this 'aint the seat for you[}:)]
they are the most comfy things Ive made , so I wont complicate the idea further.
basically something like this seat

please dont post questions etc unless you feel they are really important(I may have missed something really obvious like a mast rake angle)
nickrum and TP1 ........dont even think about starting your silly business
I will start with the plan and a material list tommorrow

Spirit of Stupidity
After managing to avoid any real landyacht building for almost a year, I've finally fallen off the wagon and returned to my old self destructive ways
I had a look at what is being builtand here were the results
Yframes-steel been there twice
ski axle-been done
yframe skis-been done
big wedge bodies-done
wooden axles-done
so I decided to go the next step in the arms race.
The OTT
first problem -not enough room to fit my ageing body underneath unless it has big wheels, but Im intent on sticking to those lovely fallshaws at the back.
Problem 2 after sailing down the beach at Goolwa , I saw the need to go up to a bigger diameteraxle which could sail over the rough stuff without bending.
so i decided to go with the 50mm BQ core tubing that Ive used on my class 5.
this means that i will need longer axles to get some flex, so if the axles went all the way to the mast i might just have th room to get my legs under.
initially I did full scale drwaings on the shed floor to get my angles but soon found that that didnt work so well . on attempt no 2 I have built a steel mock frame with the axle stubsand front collar fro the steering , and the mast step welded into place the worked backwards to build the chassis. it goes something like this
The axles go into place

the rear layover/alignment get set

the axle mounts go into place

add front suspension unit, seat mount and some simple bracing

Voila!! 3.5kg of the smallest chassis Ive ever built. every angle an odd one.
This baby will either be brilliant or a complete dog

to get it out of the frame I had to cut off the excess mast pipe, and one of the rear wheel supports, but they can be welded back on if someone is building one for themselves
side axles are 3kg each and the front suspension arm will come in at 1.5kg, so despite the heavy steel in the frame the weight is looking Happy
