How did the comp go? Any footage?

Mate the weather has been absolutely bonkers
big sub tropical lows coming down every week and pushing east, running over the top top of us or moving down the west coast.
who wants to promote sup comps? Not me anymore.
hopefully we get it done this year.

I was in the Cronulla Sutherland SUP club back then. I think our first comp was 2010 or 2011. Good days and group of like minded paddlers. I think we may have had 50 or more members at one stage. I don't think many ex members paddle anymore or maybe the occasional holiday paddle. After the club folded was in Malnutrition (bad name) at Gerroa for a couple of years. After taking off so well SUP has dropped off almost as quickly as it started. Similar to what happen to windsurfing here in AUS. Great sports but there are so many different choices now. I wish I was in my 30's.

Epic! I didn't even know there was a Cronulla club.
wild.
yeah as far I can see sup is nearly done.
There will always be that core crew.
i foil too but i choose my sup first and foremost.
I'm learning shape 3d and have Wavechaser files so I can continue defining my own custom shapes for the next 20 + years because I will never stop stand up paddle surfing.
all the best ??

Hey Casso
nice for you to join the yarn.
2011 hey! Wow! I was going off the info on my image. 1 year to early, typical me always ahead of my time ??
I think I've said it before you need to make a book with all of your best images through out the years.
going back to the photos of that era, what camera were you using back then? My first surf photography camera was a canon 20d and I even bought a water housing for it.
how's the colours, the boards, everything!
Wild there's no actual sup media format coming from Australia, Asia and the pacific in 2026.
casso, do that book!

That one time I scored a 7 page photo journalism article in a international magazine.

Narelle, That a girl
Such a wild thing to watch unfold on the charts.
There has been some massive system developing off Australia & The tropics, but old girl Narelle has travelled counter clockwise and by the latest snap shot is on track to spray the SA & Victorian coastlines with all time conditions.
PT Addis will be a SUP big wave heaven on this system, take a few spare leashes, throw on a Pfd and get out there you rhino chasing Corelords!
Will we see Narelle reach Tasmania? I bloody hope so.
My dream destination wave on king island, Martha's would certainly be getting that kind of swell wrapping around both sides of the island. There is a bunch of awesome setups there, near impossible to get a sup there unless you have a 2 piece board for travel.
Boneyards about 30kms out from Apollo bay would be pumping! Damn I'd like to get another crack at that wave.
I seen some footage of the Pilbara having fun foil waves, surely there's a perfect point break located up there somewhere, the powerball is wild atm 20million up for grabs. Leave me your lotto number and when we win, we can buy a private jet to chase swells for the rest of our days. Although the price of petrol is hectic atm.
East Coast is about to get some solid East swell and then a massive South swell in a quick one two combination.
there is a crazy Hawaiin style wave inside the heads at Port Stephens in a big east swell, a left hander that you could actually paddle out to on a sup, sharky as **** and you would need mid time pushing in to avoid getting sucked out through the heads. Probably one of the wildest waves I've seen on the east coast of Australia, snap your leash and you better have a good relationship with god.
Also you have a epic left hander called Windy Woppa just across the channel.
Terrigal Haven will be a spot that would be worth a look as well, another wave I wish I could score again.
Damn the list goes on.
The South swell!
it's going to get massive, If I still lived in Manly I'd be getting the bus across the bridge instead of the ferry.
plenty of waves kids. Get amongst it.

I've had the luxury of pioneering a few epic sup waves in my time.
outsides - A outside ledge in Newcastle that only starts to break at 6ft and holds 10ft max, loves the South - SE swell
ledging take off followed by a big wall that runs into deep water. Every session had it to myself and really had use land markers to line myself up.
miss the adrenaline and being scared of those crazy back reef bombs.

SUP Island - Port Kembla, NSW
when I moved to Wollongong I discovered my dream wave
best at 6ft, a left hander point break on a island known as a old seal colony, great whites they say.
Not the first one to surf it, but definitely was always on it over the 4 years I was in the gong, and always just me out.
Hands down the most challenging sup wave I've surfed and on my backhand even more challenging.

Having relationships with certain waves is such an experience. I love figuring out all of the facets of waves that carry serious power and will humble you real quick.
Ive also been fortunate to score some fickle reefs and river mouth set ups with no one out, especially living in my car/van for 6 years.
from the south coast all the way to Apollo Bay in Victoria, to now in NZ.
i miss my old friends and I hope in this lifetime I get to come and say hi and we can ride together once more.
just you and me together.

is there anyone more dedicated to the sport?
Casso perhaps with the close second.

Local big wave reef - damn I miss these days!!!

This past week my favourite part of Waihi Beach has finally got its perfectly shaped sand banks back.
Beach Access 15 has been absolutely smoking
With nice 2ft @12seconds with all day offshores and 2m high tides around the late morning making for 3 sessions a day picking the tides on the mid incoming, mid outgoing and mid incoming evening.
And scoring 15knots for wingfoiling on the high tides and an epic sup foil surf session with my new 1250 fireball front wing! Game changer.
Beach Access 15 has this path that highly resembles a few beach access paths on the north shore of Oahu particularly the one that runs next to JOBs house at pipeline and back door + this cool little one at V Land.
we have had these two consecutive massive tropical lows push past the NE coast super quick both going along the same path sending out that long period NZ lines.
Ive been a full forecast nerd watching every little movement and well it's paid off.
I love sup longboarding, but this past week Ive never felt it like I have before, the froth meter was through the roof, experimenting was in full swing with cross stepping with style from the nose back into a swooping inside paddle drop knee turns was the main focus + just stylish gliding take offs, cross stepping in a more slower and mindful mannerism of where my feet are going and style.
unfortunately I never have anyone to film so I use visualisation as really important tool prior to every wave and after every wave. As I see the wave coming and I'm getting into position I'm already planning what I want to achieve on every wave.
going back to the feeling. Like I said I've never felt sup longboarding like I have this week.
im riding a NSP sleepwalker 10x24@93.7L designed by Tully St John that I bought for $1000
the magic board indeed.
the best thing about this week that I had this epic bank all to myself every session, no one out, couldn't even see another surfer anywhere.
March, April & May are the best times for my coastline in NZ, let's hope the next three months deliver like last year and there are more epic sup longboard sessions to be had. Dam I'd love to drop an edit though.
