Rule No 1.: Never buy a board from a Pro. Especially a wave board... If you want an abused board than you got one.

Hey everyone, quick question regarding freestyle wave / freemove boards: which one is currently the absolute fastest on flat water?
Specifically, I’m looking at the Naish Mutant 88L. I intend to use it mostly on a lake, so I need something that gets going effortlessly and can really fly over the chop, while still allowing for fun jumps and power jibes. Has anyone tried the Mutant 88? Does it deliver good top-end speed on a single fin setup, or does it feel too draggy on flat water?
To give you guys some more context, I’m currently riding a Starboard Kode Carbon 85 (2022)[/b]. It is an absolute rocket on flat water and handles the high-wind chop of Lake Garda[/b] like a dream. It’s easily one of the fastest freestyle wave shapes I've ever experienced.
My main concern with looking for a future replacement is losing that blistering top-end speed. If I switch to something like the Naish Mutant 88[/b], can it truly match the old Kode Carbon on a straight line? I know the Mutant features a quite stretched outline and comes with a large MFC 28cm single fin designed to blast over lake chop, but is it fast enough to satisfy someone who is completely spoiled by a full-carbon Kode?
Naturally, you might wonder why I don't just buy the newest Kode. After years of being a loyal Kode rider, I decided to rule out the latest models because, according to all the recent tests, the shape has shifted way too much toward the wave side of the spectrum.
Appreciate any insights!

I don't want to hurt your expectations but you won't find anything close to your old Kode Carbon these days. Especially if you are into blistering speed.

Listen carefully to what JD says at the end - monofilm sails were as crisp and strecthless as it gets although lasting 5 minutes. This why there is no substitute for monofilm in race sails for the time being. Reading behind the lines means that carbon laminates maybe lighter and bells and whistles in the beginning, but over time strecth. If you buy a 150 cm wave sails after using it 20 times it ends up 154 cm which might not be bothering fore some people despite spending a fortune.

Tri fin but craving for the ultimate single fin feeling... simply waste of time. If you are for a multi fin sensation go directly to a quad.

The boards look sick, can't wait to try the new quad 9. Why only big sizes in haiku package?- maybe not supposed to be jumped as much...
As for the sails I am a bit skeptical- less monofilm means less reactivity, less skin tension. Apart from the mast- monofilm is the motor of the sail. No matter how durable expensive and sophisticated are laminates, nothing beats monofilm. Otherwise race sails would have abandoned monofilm long time ago for good. The 24/25 wave sails were a good compromise between monofilm/scrim surface area and proper positioning of monofilm with a patch above the longest batten- a very important place for the behavior of the sail. Lets see what the reviews will say. Cheers

Dealer meeting is this month in Tarifa so we'll get news very soon.
There is a Polakow Pro model coming, you can see it under Keith's feet in the latest Quatro MAUI pro pics from FishBowl Diaries, yellow-orange with the famous wings on the deck, it kinda looks like the 2020-2022 Pyramids (it's a full on thruster).

As far as the Goya boards, I too really don't know what they could improve, both their latest quads and thrusters are just stellar, impeccable . I have seen less positive feedbacks from the Nitros though

The short length of the Nitros puts me off. Having said that, Takara Ishi rode a Nitro in the recent Maui competition and he looked like he had far better speed in the cross on mast high conditions than most of the other sailors in his heats, even against the Maui based sailors.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The Nitro 2 had lots of speed and Takara was able to catch waves at will without having to go far out to Alaska. I dont know how tall he is and his weight- he doesnt look more than 60-63 kilos. He was on the 79 l, I reckon.
