Great info here, thanks guys.
I'm 95kg and 38yo, parawinging on Lord Howe Island where we mostly have swell mixed in with the bumps. Spent almost a year on the Frigate 4m in our lagoon getting the hang of fancy jibes etc. Now hoping to learn downwinding outside the lagoon in open ocean. I'm on the 980HA and a 85L Armstrong ML.
Keen on getting a UHA to have enough time connecting bumps to put the parawing away but don't want it to overlap with my 980 that I plan to keep for ripping turns once I learn the bumps.
Thinking about a 1070 but am worried it won't match the speed of the open ocean swells or get out of control when dropping into overhead swells. Because my board is a touch low volume I need 20 knots to easily get on foil so when I do go out of the lagoon the ocean tends to have a lot of energy.
Would a 870 or 970 tend to replace my 980 or will I still reach for my 980?
Or do I go for the other end of the spectrum and get a racecar 770 for fanging down fast swells?
Or do I just stick with the 980 and spend more time learning to connect bumps (I'm getting 200m rides) and perhaps get a bigger board/back-up larger parawing?
Thanks!
