I have gone over to Mauritius the last two seasons, and I just rent the gear from the Ion Centre on the beach at Le Morne. Some guys in the group took their own gear, but the hire gear is modern so I just adapted to the gear which doesn't take long when you sail several sessions a day. Last year I was using a new 2025 Duotone FSW and new Duotone sails. They have a small amount of freeride stuff, several Freestyle boards and some wave gear, but it is mostly FSW gear. They have gear there that ranges from 2022 - 2026
Sept 2026 will be a busy time at the hire centre. Jem Hall is doing 2 back to back clinics in Sept and Simon Bornhoff comes in straight after Jem to do clinics. So if hiring gear, make sure you book your gear now so you get what you want, otherwise you have to make the most of what is left....which is usually the older boards, which are still not that old design wise. Bring over some spare fins so you can tinker as the fins that come on the hire boards have usually copped a flogging on the reef and rough lagoon sand.
I will be over again this year for most of September and have chosen to hire gear again so I have a hassle free trip and less stuff to lug around airports and hotels. I take a spring suit for when it is cloudy, a couple of spare fins of differing sizes, harness and rashy to protect from the sun if sailing in boardies on the sunny days
