Visiting Sydney from the US and looking for advice on places to hit with consistent wind and a bit of a social scene. Given I'm already in the southern hemisphere I don't think anywhere in southeast asia is off limits, but sticking to AUS has a certain appeal.

Botany Bay has seemed pretty inconsistent so far and I'm looking to get some wave riding in - a treat for me since my local spots (Crissy Field, Sherman Island, Lake Tahoe CA) tend to be bays, or lakes. I'm staying with friends in Hellensburg right now, and been told Sandon Point has a good setup but so far I've been skunked by the wind here.

As of now, the top of my list is to fly out to Perth / Freemantle for a couple of weeks. The wind looks consistent - unclear what the foiling setup is like though! I've gotten out in Puerto Rico (Ocean Park, San Juan) where the frequent outer reefs and a cross-shore wind provided a GREAT setup that lets one avoid getting the foil out in beach break while enjoying untouched waves with few crowds 0.5KM out. Wind was kinda light thought ??.

Other options in southeast Asia worth a side-hit? A social scene and night vibes welcome for this single cat.

Hows the setup and wind in Fiji this time of year?

Sandon can be fickle in NE breeze but really good on its day. South end of same beach good in southerly. Bellambi boat ramp, watch for stingrays near ramp, Warilla beach, Gerroa and Jervis Bay all good spots.

Any intel for tomorrow? Local forecast looks not good, but ikitesurf looked bad today and it was blowing 20 in botany.

I've been trying to use those IKitesurf meter readings down around Port Phillip Bay and Point Danger (Melbourne) and they can be pretty useless at times without being familiar with local wind patterns and things like afternoon thermals.

Having more luck following local FB groups/Chats, checking in with live cams like Swellnet, and just linking up with experienced locals.

Did you bring all your own gear for the trip?

I am in Gerroa this week. Yesterday was great, today is looking good with NE and some swell. The rest of the week, strong southerly, not great here but Callala gets super fun with long runners. Many other spots are good with Southerly, they can get big quickly. Manyana can be another option, N side of green island. Enjoy

So far this summer the typical pattern of ne seabreeze for 4 days a week has not set in south of Sydney. It still feel like some sort of La Ni?a thing going on. Yesterday was just another day where even when the forecast ne wind looked good it was still very soft. Now moist southerly pattern forecast for a week after today which is typically when we will have very large range of wind in any given day due to rain squalls. You're in a great place with awesome coastline but the wind patterns are not very consistent so far and winging has been more like a two day a week instead of 5. Even in a great summer season we do not get the strength or consistency of the west coast winds so it depends on your expectations

It would be great if some of the wa crew could chime in with how their season is looking.

We've had some great days of winds recently in Perth. It was blowing all day yesterday at 20-30knots. This week will be a mix of warm early morning easterlies for winging on the river with some light seabreezes in the afternoon. If you want to drive further afield in West Oz then Margaret River (3hour south) or Esperance (7hours South-East) would be my pick of the places to be based on the 7 day forecast. Historically the week between Xmas and New-year is great for wind in Perth Metro, Lancelin and Mandurah.

Kind of responding to everyone here!

Brought my inflatable 60L @75kg, 85cm Armstrong mast, ma 1000. Wings are a strike v3 5.5 and v2 4.5. Left my 3 / 3.5 at home. Won't be surprised if I fly home with a new HA foil or wing ??
In Tahoe I'm often riding my 8m, or riding in storms with the 3m so no stranger to extreme ends of wonky wind conditions ?? but I've got the gear and local beta to make it work when it isn't :)

The 60L requires about 3kts more to take off for me (vs. my +10 85L) and I've historically ridden it in flatwater so a few things I need to adapt to. Combined with limited beach break entry technique I'm looking to be a _bit_ conservative with the swell conditions but looking forward to riding ground swell instead of wind swell.
Callala looks promising! If folks are on instagram please reach out to jstarkoobz. I'll be gunning for Gerroa or Callala tomorrow around 1:00 PM?

Yep I've found similar difficulties with IK forecasts, particularly when the wind is marginal for the gear you have knowing the local beta can make that difference to get over the hump.

Appreciate the intel. Going to try various NSW spots this week and will likely head to Perth (and perhaps buy a smaller wing) after new years given what I've heard so far. Friend's aunt already recommended Margaret River for the wine and I might need to further ingratiate myself with a boss after this extended holiday by bringing home a bottle or two.

100pm, Way too early for callala tomorrow especially with wind finally arriving about 5pm with solid rain.

Was at Gerroa today. Wind was a ridable NE until just before 5! Then it dropped off. and then it went nuts.

Staying in Huskisson for a couple of nights next. Hope this rain isn't too bad. Temps look cool too and my only wetsuit is a 2mm top.
The locals advised Calala was the move for this southerly wind.
