Hello, I'm looking to get a new wing for windy days in Perth (20 knots and up).
I'm still very much a learner, getting up on the foil a handful of times a session. Drifting long way down wind before trudging back up the beach.
currently using a Naish 5.3m wing which feels a little much when the wind is strong. I'm 90kg, and riding a big (125L) board and big foil gear.
Was thinking about a PPC 3.8m for the windier days. Any thoughts if this right or too small??
thanks in advance.
So IMO I like to keep my gear the same brand/model. Have done that with my kites and now with wings. I find that as I change down sizes I still keep a similar feel and that the drops in sizes are consistent.
Anyway, I am 104kg and ride a 110L board. I ride all PPC wings. The 3.8m is my favourite wing and I will use that from 17kts plus. In fact would like to get my hands on a 2.8m for 25kts plus. Small wings feel so much "free-er" than the bigger sizes. So from that perspective, I don't think it will be too small a wing for you in those winds.
Your other option is too look at going for smaller front foil wings (something which I can't be bothered doing).
Agree Shi Touse. I have 2.8 3.8 4.8 PPC wings. Love the 2.8 in 20knts plus. Use the 3.8 in 15 to 18 range. Hardly use the 4.8 because it feels so much bigger and harder to throw around. I'm 68 years old and 65 Kg. I use Axis 880 HPS mainly. Sometimes 910 png in lighter winds. I do prefer stronger stuff so there's less need for pumping. Probably a good idea to keep consistency in brands until you want a major overhaul.
