I have a waist leash for my board with a clip fitting and a cover that goes over the clip.
During yesterday's session in swell the clip came loose and I only noticed when I looked down to see the leash dragging in the water whilst I was foiling.
Has anyone found a way of either reinforcing the connection or fitting a fail safe in some way? I'm not keen to have it happen again! 
I'm using power tools belt from Home Depot. It used to be $5 ... now whooping $7! It has much better buckle ;-)
Wouldn't ever trust a buckle like that with my wing or board. That looks like 1 or 1.25 inch webbing. If you could go to 1.5 or 2 inch the buckles at that size are going to be heavier duty. I prefer using a beefy locking slider but even then I double back and stitch the webbing so it can't pull through.
That looks a lot like the Armstrong waist leash I have been using for a couple of years.
It was expensive but to be fair has never let me down even during some hefty falls.
I was wary of the width of the webbing when it was new but it seems to have done the job.
Like all Armstrong kit is has the badge tax and wasn't cheap.
The neoprene buckle cover has now disintegrated.
I have also tried a Gong Velcro waist leash but am wary of the Velcro as there is no secondary safety.
Having just bought a new Forward WIP impact wing vest I will probably try attaching an 8mm coil to that.
While SUP foiling yesterday my Ocean and Earth knee leash actually came off in a fall, I think it caught the foil.
So even the best kit can let you down in the right circumstances I guess!

I had the Armstrong one, buckle snapped in a crash and had a momentous swim to chase after my wing. Replaced it with Velcro and never had any issues. Had a big hold down on a big day, never even sweated with jt. Even pulled me back up to the surface. Also took the quick release off, as I thought it was pointless.
You are better off just making one imo. Or at least going to a sailmaker and have seatbelt webbing done for you with some Velcro - 10 minute job.
Super shady that companies sell belts that only have these crappy clips to secure them. I use a weight belt instead and added a hook made out of a cutting board. It is not going anywhere, and it cost me a fraction the price.

I have been using an Axis waist harness belt for long time now with no issues of coming apart during crashes.It's a Velcro fitting belt and you can slip a 3d printed harness hook on.
I wouldn't trust those clips the ways that I can how to crash.
