Has anyone had experience using a short mast as I'd like a short set up option to foil at low tide off the beach (without going hundreds of metres out)
I was on holiday on Bonaire for 2 weeks, and a large part of the bay there is really shallow. Had a 55cm mast to be able to wing in front of jibe city and worked perfectly. Its dead flat overthere so you dont really need the length as a margin of error. I ride 95cm generally and had 105cm in the past, so was pleasantly surprised to find I could ride the 55cm there without issue and minimal adjustment. Way more pop in it than I though too, my buddy could easily get the height for a palao (one handed backflip) on the dead flat water with it.
I used 60 cm mast on OBX, no problem at all. It's actually good tool for improving your foiling. Makes you more precise in jibes and tacks.
I learned to foil on a 55 and for the longest time had a 66 that I used with all my big foils. Loved it but my new brand doesn't offer a 66.

Why in the world did you want to foil there and not in front of Frans Paradise? What is considered the foil area.
I wing and parawing with a 65cm classic cedrus. Love the reactivity of a shorter mast, ability to ride in shallow waters easier. go for it!

What's the current freestyle "standard" for masts? 85 cm and as stiff as possible (but not as thin as possible)?

My friends rented at Jibe and I have friends working there, so Jibe was the hangout ;). Was fun to ride around friends who were learning. Did do a lot of foiling in front of Frans paradise too.
