With the introduction of Aluula material, I can see the advantages of having a more stiff / firmer airframe, but I can't see the advantage of a lighter weight WIng.
In Kitesurfing, I can see the advantages of a lighter Kite, to help it stay aloft in low wind speeds, but in Wingfoiling what are the advantages ?

A wing that lifts all the time, or is lighter, is easier to jibe and tack. A wing that is always falling down is awkward and horrible doing just about everything. FYI, not all wings lift during simple handling maneuvers.

When correctly shaped an lighter wing is less prone to drop when flagged while downwinding or riding waves.Next to that a better handling in lightwind. When its windy the difference between a light and heavier wing are less noticeable.

Thanks for the replies, I hadn't thought about the earlier 'tail drop' of a heavier wing.

Very interesting video, NicoDC
