When I drove past last Thursday I thought saw someone winging (or windsurfing) around the Anderson VC rest area, where the highway leaves the lake and heads south towards Canberra. Wind was good and steady, but I know the lake is very shallow and there are lots of livestock wire fences lurking just below the surface throughout Lake George.
Is this is a valid area to go for a wingfoil?
The was a crew of windsurfers that sailed there in the 80's - 90's think some of them also were into hang gliding.
Maybe use a drone to survey the area.
As u said, shallow water, lots of fences and weed. Prob better of kiting with a strapped board then at least you can jump the fences and weed isn't so much of an issue. Never kited there as when I lived around there was never quite enough water to bother.
Hey,
A big group of us sailed LG from the late 80's and it was a hell of a lot of fun. You could basically sail the whole length of the lake. You would do runs of 20k + and only turn because you get tired on the one reach for so long.
Firtsly, look out for a southerly front coming up the coast, this will create a Seabreeze effect drawing in a constant easterly breeze from late afternoon.
the lake is actually very shallow and you need to walk out pretty far to launch, this would be even more so with a foil. The bottom is super muddy making walking hard and you also deposit a lot of slime / mud on your board making it slippery.
when heading out you run parallel to the road / ranges and there are a lot of fences / fence posts. Most of them have no wire but you need to keep an eye out for posts as they can get hidden by chop.
I guess once your up on the foil it would be super fun, gets very choppy with a real sharp peak because it's so shallow but this made it heaps of fun for some pretty big jumps.
I would love to have another sail there
cheers,
Marco
Have a look at this:

There is also some FB groups for wingdings and poleys who are sailing LG and LBG.

Fences are not a problem with the higher water. You don't need to walk out very far to foil, pretty much go from the shore like anywhere.
