Beginner with Sonar 1850R and the s270 stab.
I weigh 85kg all geared up and i ride mostly flat water and wind rage from 5 m/s to 12 m/s
I would like to invest in one of the newer more modern North foils that i can still have in my quiver as i progress.

Would the jump to 1200MAV2 be to much, maybe the 1500MAV2 would be better?

I read that the SF line is very easy and forgiving and is also a great learning foil.
Would the SF1080 or the SF1230 be a good alternative to the MA series for progressing?

Would be awsome if i could use any of the mentioned front wings as a light wind solution even when i progress to smaller wings.

MA850v2 will be your one wing quiver if that's what you want. My feeling is that 700 will be too small for your light wind conditions and wave size. If ever you find yourself wanting smaller, you'll be able to easily unload the 850 and get a 700.

The 850v2 is my do it all wing.
Flat tl overhead, 10 knts to 40+ knts.

Good question,

It's not out yet so not many people can chime in on that.
Only way to know at your weight would be to demo one as well as a non HM one and see if you can tell the difference.

It's not the answer you were looking for, but I don't think that the difference will be as noticeable as between 2 different front wings (sizes or series).

Give us a bit of info about your level (gybes, tacks, riding without falling for as long as you want?), board size, wing size that you use based on wind speeds.

Why do you want to change foils? What limitations are you encountering, what are your expectations, goals?

Still very much a beginner, up on foil and just started working on gybes. Not at the skill level where ive tried tacking yet.
My feeling of the 1850R is that it feels pitch stable, but work better when "overpowered" and dont work well when wind is lighter.
I feel it dont glide so well, and its hard to learn gybing as it drops off to quickly - if that makes sense.

So i would like a foil that are easy to learn on and have much better glide. Speed is not that important for now.
Also a big pluss, is if can still have it in my quiver as i progress. Maybe as a lightwind frontwing.

Board is 118 Liter North with 6m2 and 4.2m2 wings

For my Sonar system I have the original HA1250, along with the MA1500V2, and the MA2400V2. I bought the 2400 mostly because the price was so good on it since it is made from a less expensive material (e-glass). I bought it planning to teach others with it. I decided to ride it one session in light wind to test it out. I was shocked with how fun that foil is. What is most surprising to me is how little drag it has for such a huge foil. My top speed on the 2400 is within 1 knot of the 1500, and the low drag allows it to glide for a really long time. I expected it to ride like the 2200 cm2 foil I have from Neil Pryde, but the North 2400 has noticeably less drag and as a result much better glide and less force needed to stay at cruising speed. (I've only used it with the 320 stabilizer.) It's making me a very lazy rider since I don't have to work to get my board out of the water even in light wind and then there is little pull needed to keep it moving. I have a feeling that I will ride that 2400 more than I planned when I bought it because I don't see a drawback to it in lighter wind. My turns are a little wider, but with all that glide it's no problem at all. I am 100 kg fully loaded with my winging attire.
I believe that North has also released the 1800 and 2100 in the lower cost e-glass construction. I haven't run aground with my e-glass 2400 yet, so can't really comment on durability, but it feels well put together.

Read something about the weight of the full carbon version! Do u think it's one of the lightest foils on the market? For the bigger guys every gram counts I am on axis atm. Isn't the heaviest stuff but I think there are lighter stuff out.

OK cool so it's the carbon mast 72cm with carbon fuse 60cm? Together without Stab and front wing? That helps. I will check my 82 axis power carbon with Alu fuse.

North will bring a new HM mast next month, should be 15% thinner, but also stronger.

I have the SF1230. The thickest part of the chord is quite forward and also fairly thick. I think this provides the low stall speed and relatively high lift. It seems to trade this off against a lower top speed and less glide.

Agreed. I'll be looking to compare the New DW foils vs my 1450HA V2 I use for DWing afternoon thermals 15-18 knots thigh to waist high rollers.

With 70kg you can go for the SF1080 as light wind wing. SF1230 would be for the heavier riders

1080? I guessed that lift goes with the sqcms. I tried my daughter 1400 sqcm 90 cm width and no way to go on foil in 8/10 knots while my beginner 1900 (5.5 AR) was doable (6sqm wing). Could you elaborate?

You can't compare different foil only by the surface area.I have SF1080 (75kg dry) and this foil take off at ridiculously low speed. If you at 70kg cannot get up at 10kt. Try narrow mid-length or DW board for light wind. I always advice beginner to try the SF because it is high lift and easy to learn manoeuvre.

hello, I have a carbon mast and fuselage, when mounting there are two plastic rings/ washers under the metal rings, are these necessary? what are they for. I can't find them if you need them!!?
Plastic washers?

Can you share a picture? I may have seen them but thought they were to hold the screws and washers together for packaging/transport.
