MA1050 vs MA1050v2 . Anyone?

Any more reviews on the 850 MA coming from SF riders?? Just pulled the trigger and Santa brings it day after Xmas... We've had a run of epic days with great swell and I'm more and more enamored with the 930sf (although I wish I already had the new smaller surf stab causar sometimes I'm sure the 215 is holding me back a bit) but I'm wondering...hoping.. That The MA will be more stable riding back out thru the wash after dropping down the wave face.. And stoked to have even more top end speed available when I'm cranking upwind for the next set... I assume NOBODY has tried the smaller new SF wings yet?

I don't think anyone outside of the development team/pro riders has tested the smaller SFs yet as they'll only be available as of late Jan/early Feb.

I rode the SF930 quite a lot and just got my hands on the MA850v2 and had about 5 sessions on it.

Stall speed is slightly higher than 930 but still ridiculously low.
Turns much tighter
Generates speed much better when pumping or with the wing.
High end is definitely higher
Less drag
Breaches even better.
I've breached the entire half of the wing without falling and without straps.

It's kept up, easily, with the speed of biggest swells I could find in the bay of Melbourne in 30-35 knts.
I could comfortably drop down from the very top, no increase in front foot pressure, do a bottom turn at the very bottom and then speed up to the very top for a top turn. Back and forth on overhead and a half swells yesterday.

Very very confidence boosting.

My favorite North wing so far.
Best aspects of my HA850 and SF930.
Only thing I want to ride now.

I'm 78 kg.
Tested it with 33 and 43 L Swell boards.
CF 85cm/600 fuse/178 stab with 0 and - 0.5
Didn't try any other stabs with it.

You were killing it! Best endorsement possible. I'm sold! My friend raves about his SF930 (he used to be on Cabrinha). I'm on Cabrinha 650 (fast and loose, but needs attention) and 1000 (easy foil, but feels slow now). I wonder if the MA850v2 could be my one foil for everything. (I'm 68 kg).

Tried the MA1850V2 for the first time toddd, only a shorts session.
93kg, 95l board, 7m wing, gusty 9-15 knt.
Could not directly compare it to my MA1350, but I had the impression, it rises significant earlier and was almost as fast as the 1350?!
Very low stall speed.
Will report again when I got more experience.

I tested SF930 with S185. Didn't work for me, after an hour or so I changed back to S208. The pitch sensitivity increases, but so does the drag. With S208 easier to ride and more glide. I'll give the S185 another chance when I get my hands on an SF830.

I was blown away by feeling of glide combined with pretty good low stall speed. Easily can good through white water and can keep with wind swells in 20 knots and up. Was riding this foil from 15 knots with 8m Loft pro up to 35 with gusts to 40+ knots. It is magic foil ?? was using s270 with negative shim. I want to get use to the size and next time will try s208.
I sold my MA1200 and now I'm looking for light wind wing from minimum up to 14 knots. What is the options we have now? From north I see they suggest HA1150, HA1250, HA1450. In couple of videos I heard that SF serious in bigger sizes can be light wind solution. So what to choose SF1080 or HA1250. My weight is about 80kg and I have 8m wing and 88liters seek board

Can't speak for the SF but the 1250 HA was very efficient in light wind for me (90kg) with the S208. At a lake with lulls i would reckon it is superior to the SF as the HA has low drag and heaps of glide
I still have the HA 1450, which brings me up in literally no wind and has endless glide with no drag and good speed - though still reasonably good in turns compared to the span. But will sell it, as i give up winging under 15 knts - you can pm me if interested

I have North SF1080 as my light wind foil due to its ridiculously low stall speed. I also have North HA1050 which is more efficient with much thinner profile but harder to take off in very light wind due to its higher stall speed.

Last week I have a ****ty session with very light offshore wind (6-8kt with lulls and short 10kt gust). At first, I use SF1080; I can easily take off with the gust but it very hard to stay on foil in frequent lulls. So I decide to try HA1050 which is normally will be very hard or even not possible to pump up that if I use wider board.

I found that HA1050 works better in that condition. It need less power to keep going and it glides between the lulls much better than the SF.

I'm 75kg.

SF is good for lightwind but maybe the big HA is even better. But I don't think I will buy bigger HA just for this kind of condition.

I tried both foils in on Sunova Aviator DW (7'2" x 18" 103L) I don't think I can get HA1050 up on that day using a 25" board.

My point is SF may get up easier but needs consistent power to keep going. HA can glide more and once up, use less power to sustain flight.

What exactly is you HA1250? The 2022 model with aspect ratio 6.3 or 2023 model with AR about 10.1.

I have old HA1250 which is not very nice for today standard (very slow and average glide even the SF has a bit more glide than that one.) I don't have new HA1250 but have new HA1050 and HA850.

I think all the wings are good designed and they do what they are designed for. We have to deal with physics...

With the 1850 I needed the lightest and shortest gusts to get on foil, with the 1250 the gusts had to be the longest
The 1350 is definitely faster than the 1850, but the 1850 is still good for its size (see my last post)
The 1250 as a HA has the best glide

In very light wind I guess the MA1850V2 is the session saver for me now, because I can get on foil the most easy... And I can do some jumps,I won?t do with the HA1250

Maybe I will prefere the HA1250 when I get better with my technic. Because then I can use the foil with the best glide....


One more note about the north sonar quality: Yesterday I was out with MA1050 and 4 m wing temporarily overpowerded in 30+ gusts. I hit a branch and felt/heard two bangs. But I did not find a ding on the front or rear wing or mast

Can anyone why has spent time on both the SF and MA series describe the difference in characteristics for similar size (surface area)?

Tested the HA1250-1050-850, SF930-SF1080 and the MA850v2.
82KG, average skills, Low swell to big lake to small gusty lake.
Had Sabfoil and used last years mainly the 945 with 399 stab.
Seek 5'1 98L and Strike 2's in sizes 5.5-4.5-3.5

Want to wing in the range of 10/12-28/30kn. On lakes and small waves/swell.

The SF930+HA850 are my best friends now.

SF930 is my light wind frontwing. But also usable in small swell/waves. It has a crazy lift for its size and still very good speed. Feels a bit slower as both 850s in turns but has a nice flow and always in control. Even in the upper wind range.
HA850 I use with stable winds above 16kn+. You need a bit more pump but then it flies and flies hard. Its loose, fast, glides and controllable. Did i say fast? Because of the speed you go way easier through the lulls.

I don't want anything bigger anymore. Once you tried these frontwings, the HA1050 and 1250 are just slow big dragging things. Consequence however is that you sail a bit more powered in your wings. But Strike 5.5 with SF930 and 98L board still releases me from 10/12kn+. One little gust and you go.

If you only can afford only one front wing...pick the MA850v2. If you want more low end lift and more high end speed/glide, buy the combo of SF and HA. The MA is just in the middle like North says.

Have the 208 and 178 stab...and i use 75% the HA850 with 178 stab. The 208 stab with the SF930.

I'm thinking about switching to north foils. how do the sizes compare to other foils for example f-one, duotone? Can I assume that if I have a duotone mid aspect of 1200 that I need about the same size with north?

Howdy, plenty of good reviews online, latest one here where they discuss the whole system, not just the latest sweet new ma850:



Sizes are the same as other brands that number with square area - fone and duotone. MA - all rounders, SF - surf oriented, HA - fast and glide champs.

As everyone on this thread will probably chime in, its a great system, stiff, light, mid range on the expense front (great bang for your buck) and lots of front/rear wing options.

Did you actually try the S208 with the MA 850v2? The 215 is not for the medium aspect series. You should try the 850v2 with their s178 or s208. If you want more stability try the S210. But that S215 is for the SF series.
