I was on a Mya 5.7 wing. For me, with 90kg, I would say it was marginal winds. How much I am not sure.

Yesterday I had a new session at the same spot, with some more wind, and also the 5.7. But went in between islands and all sorts of narrow places, so had lots of light wind manoeuvres. Counted 55 tacks going upwind.

The 850 worked well in these situations. I could do sharp tacks, with solid pump trough the turn.

Have had lots of sessions on the Orca 685 and 800. Would like to have some proper sessions in good bumps before I say how it compares. But for low end, and ease of use, I think it is in the Orca 800 range.

I am currently considering going to AFS, Code or F4.

78 kg, primarily wing in New England 3m to 7m and prefer swell, wave riding however do a bit of flat water. Advancing intermediate jibe well, working on tacks.

Former kit was Axis - HPS and Spitfires.

I know enough about the AFS and Code offerings so wanted to hear some updates on F4 - primarily Orca vs Manta. Stick with only one model or mix it up and if so, Manta's for high winds/waves and Orca for flatter conditions or vice versa.

Thx

I chat with this guy frequently. He just switched from AFS to F4 in Maui.

I think he's SaltyHaole on progression project: forum.progressionproject.com/u/saltyhaole/summary
On here, I think Norfolkfoiler is the handle of a guy who went AFS to F4.

I think I'll have a go on the Orca 685 soonish.

I’m 68 KG and primarily parawing the Orca 685 and Manta 635. I haven’t winged them yet, but I’m guessing that the orca would be the better call for winging, unless you are drawing really tight lines in steeper waves. the orca has more glide, which will help you progress on your tacks. it’s also plenty Surfy on its own. you could also pair it with the Surf 120 extra short tail, which is my current favorite .

I guess the argument for the manta winging Would be that you always have the Wing there for power and it might be the better foil for cranking hard turns and not dealing with Wing tip breach, etc. I just had a great PW session on the manta and solid Gorge Like conditions And I felt extremely comfortable on the manta. No fear dropping it on bigger swells pumping over and into them, felt amazing. Topped out at 20 mph on a swell, Which may be a personal best. I’m guessing that with the orca I might’ve been a little bit more on the edge of my seat because it automatically taps into swell energy a bit more.

I am 93kg - mainly parawing with some winging on an 80l SK2. I use the orca 800 and manta 750 predominantly - have the smaller and larger sizes in both too. I use the 85 RC mast with the 135s and 137s. I switched from the afs enduros (700, 900, 1100, 1300) most recently, and eagle 890 / sk850. The orca 800 compares to the enduro 900, but offers me an upgrade in all the key areas: better low end, better roll, and better top end (the feel of efficiency at high speed). I use this for parawing when it is low energy eg waist high bumps. The manta 750 compares to a sk8 850 (which I loved), but with more low end, but a similar feel of top end speed and carve/roll. I did demo the v1 silk 850 but did not get along with it - wasn’t used to the lack of glide and lack of top end. I use the manta for higher energy bumps parawing and winging. So for me the f4 hype is real - best foils I have used so far. What I am probably most impressed by so far is the glide and low end of the 750 for a foil that drives turns so well.
